alright so i'ma throw out an edit now for all you folks this solution worked on a phenom II X4 945 with a gtx 760 gpu

updated to the new game ready drivers that nvidia posted via their update software specifically for no man's sky that's 372.54 for the main driver make sure you update to or past that mark

also had to update no man's sky to the 4th day experimental patch on aug 16th or later (code for acess is via the beta options in steam "3xperimental" i'll post a copy of the dev's statement on exactly how to get to this with steps below.

also had to set gsync and vsync to off via the file in c:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\binaries\settings\TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS
you can use notepad or notepad ++ to edit this

then set the shader cache to off and vsync and tripple buffering to on in the nvidia control pannel


now for the final step you must delete the old shader cache folder in no man's sky to clear it from any previous launch attempts. the location is c:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\ the folder inside there called SHADERCACHE must be deleted for the shader fix to work properly

EDIT: ssse3 also does not work with the phenom series as it was mainly an intel thing. we need to wait for sse4a functionality if it is possible to add that.

EDIT: this only works thanks to hello games patching in an EXTREMELY fast manner i expected this fix to take at least a month and am very thankful to the developers for this one.

the should do a patch like the devs from MGSV MGSV had the same issue at lauch but in a few hours the devs brought a patch and it workt now theg ame start even if your cpu hvae no SSE4.1 and i can run it now on max setting hello game should do the same.

unless they wrote alot of sse4.1 instructions, then it is gonna take alot longer.

My thing is, have they even confirmed they are going to fix it? Some people are saying they are just pointing at the minimum specs and saying that since the cpu they listed had 4.1 we are screwed.

Just thought I'd pop a note according to Steam my Card (also a 970GTX) supports OpenGL 4.5

I would check if your Processor supports SSE4.1, that seems to be the main problem people are having AFAIK your CPU Chip was released at the End of 2011 and only included SSE4a

it is late so I could be wrong :(

Quick Edit, I check and it seems your Chip doesn't support SSE4.1 only SSE4a

best thing to do is try the INtel SSE 4.1 Emulator setup and test if game loads for you, I'll post instruction's here and they are copied from Reddit User "Fire_Gaming_UAV" as it's late and I can't locate the Original:

IF YOU ARE A STEAM PLAYER, YOUR BEST OPTION IS TO SWITCH TO THE EXPERIMENTAL BRANCH WHERE HELLO HAS FIXED THIS. Switch to the experimental branch with code 3xperimental. Hello Games got you covered.

extract it and put the files in with NMS.
make a shortcut of sde.exe
in the shortcut target at the end after the closing qoutation sign, append "-- NMS.exe" without the qoutes so your path would be: "C:\whereverGameFolderIs\sde.exe" -- NMS.exe
run as administrator

This SHOULD make it be able to execute the commands, but it will also perform seriously badly. But at least will be confirmation of error. Won't be any playable performance, but then we can tell with certainty that a game recompile with legacy SSE support is needed from Hello.

what is truely needed for phenom series cpu users as they cannot support ssse3 which is intel only and sse4.1 is integration of sse4a which was the sse4 instruction set for amd cpus when the phenom series was active. mind the 900 series does not support opengl natively and needs updates to do so only the 1000 series cards had that from the factory. as this solution is slow on most systems currently my solution is to wait 2 weeks if the game can't run sse4a personally i'ma throw down 350 bucks to upgrade to a new chipset that will run anything for the next 8 years.
No worries. I have this game crashed after logo on Core i5 as well.

first and second gen i3 i5 and i7 also should have the same issue but ssse3 will fix the intel cpus try the experimental branch

im on phenom ii x4 850 and radeon hd 6950 and game stops responding on initialize screen. have no idea what is happening to me using experimental as well

I have a GTX670 and the game works. But after 1 or 2 hours of gameplay, i have to close and restart the game because FPS drops to 1-5.... i think the game have issue with some AMD CPU (i have a AMD FX6300) or with some GPU.

Tips: If you have the same lag and FPS drop that i have, and you want to reach an outpost to save your game and quit, you can walk/run while looking up in the sky. FPS will raise to 30+ and you will be able to move fast. For the ship, i have no tips to bypass the FPS drop...

Hope it can help some people.

this is more or less due to a memory leak with the game. but yes closing and restarting the game fixes the issue. to me its a minor inconvence that i can not extend my play sessions past 2 hours but its one that im willing to deal with to be able to play this game.
Well, being a Phenom II owner that runs everything else I play smoothly, I don't see why this game has such issues with it. The experimental branch is a joke; after the last update to it they state "Game is now confirmed working on Phenom CPUs." -- yes, "it runs" is about as far as it gets. Sounds are terrible and the game still crashes left right and center. having a 4-core, 3.4GHz CPU and a Nitro 380X GPU this game should run smoothly. But... it was obviously designed from the ground up on intel hardware only, so i guess the best us AMD CPU/GPU owners can hope for is a crappy band-aid...

Sorry if I sound jaded -- it's because I am. Sorry, Hello Games -- I've had to request a refund. maybe when you get the game to not be so vendor-biased I'll look at it again. Not worth €60.- in this broken state.
alright i've updated the main post now with the latest solution after about 16 hours of testing it personally mind i did try the emulation and this method is at least 10 times faster.
