Game stuttering, frequent fps drops and even freezes.
Hi, can someone help me with getting this game to run smoothly? I've tried many fixes found on google including setting NumHighThreads and NumLowThreads already. I've tried setting all from ultra to low and back, to set some high, some low, and nothing. I've tried to put the game on fullscreen and borderless, with vsync, without vsync and nothing helps. :wowshmm:

My computer uses 1060 GTX 6GB on i5 with 16 GB RAM. Game is running on an SSD.
This is my current TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML:

Yep, that's an i7/i9 exclusive feature. Which is why if it's an i5, it needs to be 8 cores.

I am having this exact same problem, however i do not have an ancient processor, i have also seen videos of other people playing nms on gtx 1060 max q 6gb with the exact same settings i have and run it well above 60 fps with zero sever frame drops. I have gone through several settings guides as well and also run machine diagnostics and I have not been able to yield an answer.

Constant stutter when moving on the planet or once when leaving a planet by starship?

The latter (leaving a planet by starship) is unfortunately normal even for a i9-10900K with a RTX 3090 and 32 GB RAM.

Well too bad they didn't put that info on the store page...

what about the first one?

The first one is an effect of having less than 8 threads for processing available at the same time. That is why I asked Storm Vader which kind of stutter he meant.

This happens no matter where I am at, planet side, underground, above ground, in space, on a space station

I also can't get anything above 60fps and one MI ute I'll be at 55 frames and then the next I'll be at like 6 or 7

Its incredibly frustrating, I can coast in games like FO76, but I have had this problem with both NMS and Empyrion, for some reason Empyrion was even worse.

Iv been banging my head against the wall..

And just so we are clear the i9 8950hk has 6 cores and 12 threads, the hardware here isn't really the issue to me

And I don't think it's about the settings of the game either, though I could be wrong about this.

I am very skeptical about the recent Nvidia drivers and windows updates... Does anyone have any insight on this?

Also what's your thought on this solution?

@Storm Vader
For me this strange stuttering did start after version 446.14...Thats why I always stay with this version. Maybe you have a similar problem and need to rollback your driver to a version which is one year ago ..

I'll give this a shot after the nba playoffs and I'll let you know, thanks
Ettanin 2021년 6월 20일 오후 4시 21분
in case you need references for working nVidia drivers (won't fix the issues if you have less than 8 threads):
GTX 1060 6 GB (i7-7700) with driver version 466.63
RTX 3090 (i9-10900K) with driver version 460.89

with neither of these versions do I have the stutter issue planetside.

so rolling back the driver did not fix this for me. However, i did fix the problem, my g7 15 comes with gtx 1060 6gb max q and Intel HD graphics. For whatever reason even though I even had it manually set to use the gtx 1060, it was using no graphics device at all. I was able to see this by running the task managers performance monitor on my other screen and i was monitoring the performance of the gtx, while both were enabled the card registered 0 activity.

As soon as I disabled the Intel HD graphics device, the card began to work and all stuttering and frame drops ended, and I am getting around 80 frames, I am sure i could boost that by playing with the settings, but this will do for now.

So..if you have integrated intel graphics and a separte video card, disable your integrated graphics.

Thats the worst what could happen .. Always good to check that TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML ...
That line indicates if NMS is not using your GPU :
<Property name="MonitorNames" value="0|HERE should be your GPU|YOUR_Monitor" />

this is what mine says:

<Property name="MonitorNames" value="0|NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB|Generic PnP Monitor" />

is that ok?

Yep. Multi-GPU systems are oftentimes an issue not just with No Man's Sky

If disabling the Intel GPU doesn't alleviate the issue, you can use the nVidia Control Panel to force usage of the 1060 6 GB Max-Q.

looks good to me. However, I doubt this will help your issue because you have an i5. Mind telling me which i5 exactly? There actually are newer generation i5 CPUs that have 4C+HT or 8C.
