No Man's Sky won't launch WHATSOEVER!

So, the last time I played No Man's Sky was in 2018 when Foundations was a newly released update.

Game ran fine, and I haven't touched it since.



A friend poked me about it the other day, I saw it had like a dozen new updates since then and I decided to give the game another try.

I fresh installed the game, clicked Play, Steam notified i was in game for a few seconds before returning to its idle status and not even a window or prompt appeared. I check Task Manager processes, NMS briefly appears for a few seconds before disappearing from the list



I verify the integrity of game files, let it complete, click Play, same problem

I uninstall and reinstall the game, Play, same problem

Uninstall, restart pc, reinstall the game, Play, same problem



So I decide to have a look around on google for fixes to this;

Updated Nvidia drivers to most recent, Play, same problem

I disable MSI Afterburner, Play, same problem

I delete SHADERCACHE files, Play, same problem

I delete the 3 files in Library/NMS/Properties/Local Files/Binaries/Settings, Play, same problem



At this point, I am so close to just giving up even trying to get this game to even run as I'm exhausting everything I can find.



Is there a fix to this problem!??!???


My pc specs for anyone wondering;

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

Intel Core i5 4430 @ 3.00GHz

16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz

2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Same problem after ORIGIN update installation. Updated GPU drivers. GTX 960 4GB. Nothing happens when clicking play....

I'm having the same issue. I've gotten it to launch one time fully and then back to nothing.

The one time I got it to work I fully uninstalled and reinstalled my NVIDIA driver. Restarted and then launched from steam. I closed it out right after launching it and then tried to re-launch it again... now it won't work again lol, so close!

No error, no anything, just fails to launch. RIP

I figured it out. The launch error is reported when you attempt to launch the game from the windows file explorer. You need to re-install the " Visual C++ Redistributable Visual Studio 2015".

I have no idea why it was UNINSTALLED. After updating NMS NONE of my games would work, including NMS. This solved it!

I got it to load, it was messy though. I uninstalled ALL of my Visual C++ packages, then uninstalled Steam itself. I re-installed Steam and when I downloaded the game, it prompted to install the needed VCRedist packages and loaded up.

I had another game have this same exact issue after it updated yesterday evening, so I figured it had to be either a Steam issue or a Windows issue.

I remembered that typically after a big update, I need to enter admin credentials to run the game - Steam would prompt for first-time run and do some stuff in the background. I remembered never saw that after this update; I think that the updates have the game using different VCRedist than it was previously, but there may have been an issue in associating the updated game files with the new VCRedist package.

After removing all of those packages and re-installing Steam, when I first ran the game Steam automatically installed VCRedist 2017 and then loaded the game up. I then tried loading the other game that was having the same issue, Steam replaced VCRedist 2017 with Visual C++ 2015 - 2019 Redist and it also loaded up. Both games now work without issue

Forcing borderless mode OR minimal graphics quality fixed it for me.

no dice for me :/ I get to see Hello Games logo for a few sec and then its gone. vc redist or forcing windowed/low settings through geforce exp doesn't change a thing

just update on my situation: reinstalled windows (straight from MS), installed steam, then game - everything works perfectly. any settings. i7-7700k 16gb 1070

a solution found in another thread, maybe could help some people in here, is to uninstall OBS if you have it. that fixed my error messages.

Almost 1 week since I sent the error code (64519_0xc80fe_76561198020792591) to Hellogame and still nothing from them !!
