Cannot launch game : Local Activation permission not granted
Hi

Just picked up this game and was looking forward to playing it...

When I launch the game the screen goes black for a second and the game closes silently (no error msg) after that.

I have tried running the game as admin, inside and outside steam, and also disabling my virus scanner. Same result.

However Event Viewer shows the following under "Administrative Events":

Source: DistributedCOM
EventID: 10016

Details:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
and APPID
{9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
to the user XXXXX\XXX SID (S-1-5-21-2084439004-3688341981-326900357-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Windows version and video card?

Have you installed the game on a accessible drive which is non-protected and have you generally admin rights on your computer? Both must be true I think.

The game is installed on the main drive (C:) as suggested by the installer and I have admin rights on the computer.

GTX 260? oh dear, you need a card which supports OpenGL 4.5 and at least 2GB VRAM. Better is a card which will not be underpowered: with 4GB VRAM. A low-cost one is GTX 960 4GB VRAM (e.g. from GigaByte)

Short answer: My newer Gfx card died on me some months ago, so I had to swap the old card in. I have a GTX 1050 Ti, 4GB, coming in the mail though.

The error listed in the event log does not appear to be hardware related, but rather related to a missing permission.

This article deals with a similar error concerning event id 10016:

https://www.itexperience.net/2018/12/02/event-id-10016-fix-the-application-specific-permission-settings-do-not-grant-local-activation-permission-for-the-com-server-application-with-clsid/

However, applying the fix did not help. We will see if things changes when the new Gfx card arrives.
