Content File Locked

So, my update of the game is trapped in limbo because the download says Content File Locked. Not sure what's going on there or why, but it seems I can't finish updating for some reason, and it's been like that for days.

I had that happen when I first tried to download the experimental patch. The only way to fix it was to uninstall and then go and clean out the left behind folders in steam and then I went to

C: Users/ (what ever your user name is)/AppData/Roaming

and erased the Hello Games folder there.

After the reinstall it worked again.

I didn't have to erase everything (thank god, i liked my save). Mine said locked too and I didn't do anything with the experimental branch. All I had to do was go in and delete the NMS.exe file that was "locked up" and verify integrity of the cache to have it download an unlocked version. worked like a charm.

All that I had to do (it happened twice) was reboot my laptop and resume the update. I dont see why people see restarting the game as a solution to most problems. I see it as a last resort.

This keeps happening, reboots and all. The deletion of the .exe is working to at least get the update going again at least.

Wait a minute. You said you restarted your laptop, but then don't understand why restarting the game is offered as a solution to problems? Restarting the game takes less time than a system reboot and most of the time does solve most issues. The fact is that restarting the program is the first step in troubleshooting and not the last. The last resort is looking for workarounds to your specific issue.
