I don't have the most cutting edge system, but I do maintain it pretty well, and it is EXTREMELY rare for me to out-right NOT be able to even get a game to launch.
I could deal with performance issues, game glitches and such, but this is probably the worst problem I have encountered since I can't remember when.
I hope they can come up with some kind of work-around or, preferably, a patch before the weekend.
Very disappointed I can not even get the game to load.
Also, just tried un-installing the game, deleting the folders for the game under Steam's main folder, and deleted all Save file data under users\myname\appdata\roaming\hellogames and it still crashes with the same error in the windows event log.
What a buggy mess this update has been :(
With TAA+FXAA it works.
Delete TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS in Steamapps/common/Nomanssky/Binaries/settings
Start Game and set your graphics without SSAA
Original NMS ran fine with everything on High. Foundation update came along. I had to drop some things to Low and it would run for an hour usually before eventually crashing on planetfall or climbing into the ship. Now Pathfinder has arrived I crash to desktop on Loading Shaders every time. I tried editting my settings file to reduce everything to low but to no avail. The shader error file says out of memory.
I have 8gb and 2gb VRAM. Not stellar specs by any means! But I miss the days they used to run NMS on High. Is this new update good? It look amazing. But sadly - for me at least - it's unplayable now.
To fix it, I turned virtual memory back on - to about 15% of memory. So in my case, that was 1280MB. Just enough for windows to swap out it's own useless crap.
It worked for me, but ONLY do this if your virtual memory is OFF. If it's already on, leave it well alone.

nvidia driver 378.78 just came out today
I opened the file:
TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML in Steamapps/common/Nomanssky/Binaries/settings
using Internet Explorer and found that the texture detail was set to "High"
Since Explorer won't allow the file to be edited, I opened it with Notepad and change the following line:
<Property name="TextureDetail" value="High" />
to this:
<Property name="TextureDetail" value="Normal" />
This puts the "In-Game" graphic option for texture to "Medium" instead of "High".
Just for giggles, I tried using the "Ultra" setting, but the game crashed with a memory acess violation, so I re-edited the line in TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML back to this:
<Property name="TextureDetail" value="Normal" />
Set other settings, like shadows up to high and launched the game several times without errors.
I KNOW I had a much better looking game BEFORE this update, so something has changed in the graphics settings department and "Broke" the texture detail setting.
I can at least now play the game, although it does NOT look nearly as good as it did 3 days ago :(
I was having the same error on my kid's machine. I watched the amount of ram being used, and even though it wasn't getting close to the 8gb installed it still crashes at the same spot you mentioned.
So it was solved on Win 10 by going to :
System settings > Advanced System Settings > Under Advanced tab click on "Settings" in the Performance box > Under Performance Options go to Advanced tab and click on "Change" in the Virtual Memory box > select "Custom Size" and set Initial size and Maximum size to a higher number. It was set to 512mb, so I just tried Initial size 2048mb, Maximum size 2048mb and the game runs fine now.
I was able to turn all the graphics setting back up to mostly max settings aside from AA on a "below minimum spec" Radeon HD 6970 2gb.
