Cant start "They Who Returned quest

Hi
Havnt played NMS for ages. Been hearing about the new Worlds 1 and 2 updates and thought id give it a go, again.

I wanted to start exploring the new purple worlds, but found out i have to complete certain goals to do this (why??) anyway, one of those is to complete the quest "They Who Return"
For some reason i cant activate this. I found a dissonant system but no quest start.

My main quest line is now on "Atlas eternal, Crimson web".
Just finished gathering all the seeds. Now just a series of repeat quests to share my discoveries with the Atlas.

Not sure if i did the Purge or not, like i say was ages ago since i last played.

Anyway, totally confused as to why "they who returned" hast started. Please help ;(

The only way I could get "They Who Returned" to start was to warp while piloting a crashed Sentinel ship.

This has taken me 3 days on my primary 800hr save to figure out how to start the questline.

As I understand it there are only two ways to reveal purple stars in-game, neither of which involve using the terminal in the Space Anomaly to clone a simple piece of equipment.

Interesting - regarding Plan B <- all of my (plan b) completed Titan expedition saves have full access to the new Purple systems. I can also build both drives (ship & freighter*).

So shouldn't Plan B just be complete the Titan expedition on a new save?

Or are you planning ahead for a Worlds Pt III; regardless, the stated requirement was "reveal purple stars in-game" and just completing the Titan expedition is all that is required to satisfy the stated objective.

*Note: the freighter drive b/p must be purchased

Just wanted to thank you because you're the very first person who has explained how to find the Dissonance Resonators. I spent a couple of days trying to figure it out, until I finally got a hit for this in a search. And I've just completed this part of the quest and can continue forward.

That said... the Harmonic Camp icon showed up in my radar before I found the echo locator! I didn't know what it was, though, I thought it was some icon for a thing I hadn't found yet. Once I got the echo locator, it pointed me towards the icon and I went "Oh... so that's what it was."

So finding the locator might not be necessary. It just makes it easier.
