finish the Artemis Story
finish the Atlas Quest
finish the Autophage Quest
have the Star Seed installed
after you have done all this just pulse around and the newe quest should trigger. and yes. they are endgame. and yes deep oceans on waterworld are really deep
Since they are probably a new player that whole series, which has been reworked over the years really does give new players a great overview of the game lore. It's not that very many hours in the great scheme of things. Just my opinion.
Deep oceans in normal planets, not purple might get you to 100 feet/units max but they too have been rewords so are more interesting. Otherwise the Deep Oceans, 1000 units or more, are indeed on purple planets but you need to have some specialized tech, good personal shielding, etc that you will earn along the way playing the game. It's a process.
To unlock the Autophage questline, you need to:

Those are the only 2 requirements to start the Autophage questline. Please read the wiki & the links if you have more questions. The wiki is up to date on this last I thoroughly read it (which was not this morning, but recently).
Deep oceans are only found in purple systems as far as we know. Meaning no one has proven otherwise at this time.
