Game modes and discoveries
Are discoveries shared between game modes like permadeath and creative? So if I start a new game in normal mode will I still see planets I discovered in permadeath?

It won't be in the discoveries tab on new or other saves. If you visit it again, it will show up and you will see credit - provided you uploaded the discovery and were first to discover.

I almost wish I could run search queries against the discovery service to find all my discoveries, even if I just got json data back with coordinates/metadata so I could map all my previous journeys from years past. It would allow me to go back and visit using portals.

For in game, it would also be nice to be able to filter just places I have visited instead of all the extra data it picks up from other players nearby or seemingly random data.

One other note:
At some point if you keep exploring, old data will fall off the discoveries tab, so definitely place a base any place you want to remember/go back to. Also its a good idea to screenshot the coordinates from photo mode, and in ship/visor coordinates if you want a spot marked on a planet. (if you ever feel like going back someplace) Years ago, I had to accept that there is generally no going back, though its a lot more possible now than before.

Yeah I'm surprised there is not a website that can search the galaxy and view discoveries by any user. I'd also like to know exactly how many systems have been explored.
