Turning off multiplayer doesn't help since I'm still connected to the discovery servers. So my only choice to rename an animal is to warp all over to find a system no one has been in?

Set Steam to offline and everything will show as undiscovered. It's really not hard to find an undiscovered system within 1000ly or so of the expedition area though.

(You can rename systems and planets btw, doesn't have to be an animal)

Basically yes. But do it smart and you'll only need to jump a few times.

Pick galaxy core path, rotate in an arbitrary direction at least 45 degrees. Then warp again in the same general direction. Keep going in the same general direction until you find an undiscovered system, Its fairly early so we might find one ~1000 lys away.

or

Locate a black hole and go through it. Then look for undiscovered systems.

or

Learn a few glyphs, then portal to a random system.

or

Teleport to a featured base, and look for a system there.

I just turned in the opposite direction of the next rendezvous and jumped maybe 300-400LY to some random yellow star system (install those hyperdrive upgrades!). It had undiscovered stuff I used for the milestone.

Yeah I jumped about four times and found an undiscovered system I renamed. Thanks.
I flew 400 ly and found two who were not discovered.

I didn't have to find an undiscovered system to rename an animal. It happened quite naturally on the planet of the 2nd rendezvous.
To my surprise, the first two animals I scanned (a squid and a shrimp) were undiscovered while the other 6 had already been discovered.
As @smurfy already mentioned, you don't need to jump anywhere.
I completed the milestone, this morning on one of the starting moons

Here's from a different moon

This happened to me in the third system. Sometimes the discovery servers gets bogged down and you don't get the most resent information.

do it last and go threw a blackhole warp a couple systems until you see undiscovered world, took me two systems jumps

This one apparently being misread or changed since original start of the expedition? I never saw anything that said it had to be an animal to rename. Just a discovery.
@smurfy answered the question in the 4th post, Travelers. Tag and bag this easy one. :nmsgek:
You shouldn't have to go too far off the Expedition path to find an Undiscovered planet. The Expedition hasn't even been going a week yet
I just went back through my Discoveries to find something (wasn't from expedition) and renamed it. Worked for me.

OH MY HIRK BECKY.....

Brand new Expedition save. Rode a tornado, fixed my ship, collected storm crystals and Crystallised Helium. Left the planet and flew to Resid Prime (ANY moon will work).

Landed at and activated a waypoint.

Placed my mouse over the waypoint image and pressed "X". Typed in the new name and pressed enter.

Escaped out of the menus and the LEGACY milestone completed.

As we've observed in this thread, we sure can make it way more complicated.... but why?

Note: Yes, I changed my ship from a flying turd to an Explorer class. I also switch the difficulty to extreme survival with 500/1000 inventory slots.

It's called the Mandela Effect. Tom Cruise never wore sunglasses when he lip synced in his underwear in Risky Business and I never saw "Animal" Discovery.
