What is the point of playing multiplayer?
My friend is new to the game. I join my friend as he starts. I can't help my friend do anything, just watch. spawn my vehicles? he can't drive them or sit in them. give some oxygen? no. Gift a ship? no. build a base?...What is multiplayer in this game. What do you do with friends?

you can send them resources. just click quick transfer in your inventory and then select them as the recipient. they need to be near you and not in a menu
Zee Roe.

On the exocrafts- check your settings, if you have the platforms set up, they should be able to spawn their instance of the exocraft. As with your ship, pretty sure you can't jump out of yours and they jump in.

I think the MP in the game is mainly for yakking and showing off your new cosmetics. You could have a pretend slumber party at one of your bases. Maybe check out the NPCs at the station and make snide remarks about them behind their back.

So...social.
I have many hours in the game, I know you can give resources. But I've only seen it on the Anomaly. My point is when you join a friend. I have 500+ hours and he has none. multiplayer is useless. there's no interaction. We all love Hello Games and all they've done with the updates but lets be real. there's no real social aspect.

You can help them farm ressources (sending them ressources should work everywhere), you can let them use your base and freighter (farms, any machinery for cooking or refining ressources and the storage box will also show them their own instance of the storage box - so they can store stuff and later will see the same stuff when they build their own storage), you can build bases together, you can hunt pirates together. There is plenty of options although you need to check that the host's network settings are set up correctly.

NMS' co-op is more "playing solo together" than anything else... you can give materials to others and they to you but that's about it... generally folks run around together doing their tasks as they need to... maybe someone needs X so someone in the group finds where it is and tells them "over here" and let's them get it...

it hasn't ever been co-op like an MMO or RPG with co-op... i'm not even sure if it ever was intended to be like that since co-op was scabbed on after so many people cried and carried on about wanting some sort of multiplayer capability...
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love NMS, I've played it since day 1 without question. but as I play, or try to play multiplayer. I realize it's nothing. That's kinda silly right? A massive open world "universe". but you can't interact with poeple at all? what da funk. let me kill my friends, let me give them rides, trade a ship or two.

You can kill each other if you both turn PvP on...

I always thought that the point of multiplayer was to dump trash from your inventory into someone else's.

What else could you have possibly meant by that?

Sure, I didn't respond the rest of your comment, but that was never my intention to begin with...

I tried playing this multiplayer with my friend a bit but we all ended up doing our own things. It's kind of like Minecraft where I suppose you could cooperate in building a base and share materials but really there's not much benefit to doing so. You don't get any kind of bonus and more players means you still need more materials so doing any particular mission still takes the same amount of time basically

Same reason why some girls like going to the bathroom in group.

-give resources (from your inventory)

-teleport to the other player's system (probably the most useful feature)

-edit someone else's base if they allow it AND they are online

Thats it. Expect sync/rendering issues often.

Over the new year a bunch of users from this forum had 2 different fireworks parties. More than a dozen players at the first one. That was a fun use of MP.
