On the exocrafts- check your settings, if you have the platforms set up, they should be able to spawn their instance of the exocraft. As with your ship, pretty sure you can't jump out of yours and they jump in.
I think the MP in the game is mainly for yakking and showing off your new cosmetics. You could have a pretend slumber party at one of your bases. Maybe check out the NPCs at the station and make snide remarks about them behind their back.

it hasn't ever been co-op like an MMO or RPG with co-op... i'm not even sure if it ever was intended to be like that since co-op was scabbed on after so many people cried and carried on about wanting some sort of multiplayer capability...

Sure, I didn't respond the rest of your comment, but that was never my intention to begin with...
Same reason why some girls like going to the bathroom in group.
-give resources (from your inventory)
-teleport to the other player's system (probably the most useful feature)
-edit someone else's base if they allow it AND they are online
Thats it. Expect sync/rendering issues often.
