It's motivation to do the stuff to unlock it.
Now, I will agree that for a veteran who has already done Artemis Path on another save, doing a new save is daunting, boring, feels like a waste of time, etc.
The new player? You have nothing to complain about as you still have a lot of content left to see and do before you arrive there. It's all going to be new, might as well just sit back and do the story missions. There's some nice rewards out of it (like that tech that gives a lot of stat bonuses).
You can do other stuff WHILE doing Artemis Path, you know.
Building up your equipment (because stepping onto a gas giant with starter equipment is a suicide run), etc.
Lmao, it's totally not too hard to do the main quests. It's an end game questline. If you are that lazy, just download goatfungus save editor and add the atlantid drive to your ship and freighter.
But some DooTuber had the special ship & now I NEED it too. It's unfair that I don't have it. It's a BUG
