Highest DPS minotaur weapon
Does anyone know if the Minotaur Cannon or the Minotaur Flamethrower does higher DPS? I assumed the flamethrower would have higher DPS as its a short range weapon but from the shoddy tests I've been able to run, the cannon seems to be strictly better.

The flamethrower mods seem to give a much higher damage bonus but they get a smaller boost from the supercharged mod slots. The Cannon mods give much smaller boosts but they give two multiplicative damage boosts and these boosts are greatly increased when put in the super charged mod slots.

I tried comparing how long the flamethrower and the cannon took to kill the smallest attack sentinel drone - with 3 non-supercharged mods attached to each. The Cannon seemed much better. Its hard to confirm it was an accurate test though as its incredibly hard to manually aim the Minotaur weapons at small targets :/

Comes down to what was most useful for me.

I don't even bother to install the cannon. I do far more damage far more quickly with a good multi-tool. The mining is more useful and boosts for the engines/Ariadnes flame more useful still

The Minotaur is really useful for mining in hostile climates/expeditions, not so hot in combat.

I THINK the cannon stuns, which isn't useful on it's own, but with me picking stuff off with the multi-tool that could be a win.

But it comes back to: I'm a far more efficient killer than the chunk of tin so why bother ?.

@taniwhat, making a choice between the minotaur or a multi-tool hasn't been a thing in years. That's what the A.I. tech on the minotaur is for.

Mino great paper weight. First time it jumped on a bunch of molds was the last time I used past the quest. Always swear I'll try him again but so far, not happenin.

Paper weight is right...
I only used it for the Liquidators expo... during which it was helpful to pick off stray horrors and send them back to the kill zone (spawn point)
Since then, I've barely, if ever, used it again... (horror fights aren't frequent enough to warrant its use)

When piloted... it's slow to turn/aim and you take damage directly instead of getting some shielding.
When on AI, it constantly walks across my line of sight and blocks me from shooting stuff...

I did have an odd circumstance where my most recent baby mino was in a fight with me and of course standing in my way so I couldn't see JackSheet and I noticed as I scanned across it trying to aim at the sentinels it actually said it was protecting me, on the screen and as compared to fights before it did seem to attack less and get in my way more if that is even possible. After the fight that got me curious but I didn't find anywhere to choose in the X menu or anywhere else fighting/protecting option I could opt for like the power options for ship fights. Nothing on fandom wiki either. He is poorly upgraded which I shall correct soon but something has changed, I think.

So once again, I get to ask here - is there something I have been missing lo' these many hours?

This depends.

In AI MODE the Cannon is boss as it has a min/max range that is EFFECTIVE.
The Flamethrower min/max in the game file are set the same as the GUN (Min/Max 6/60) not set to correctly. The animation for the flame and actual effective range is between 1 ~ 19 u's.
In AI mode the Mino will waste it's weapon swap interval (Stun, Laser, Gun, Flame Thrower), on an enemy out of range; thus is just strut and light show.

If you are the pilot however the Flamethrower can butcher multiple sentinels in CQC if they are hovering near each other..near you.

I do feel the cannon is tried and true. Removing all weapons minus the AI arm with the stun gun and the cannon one can toggle pretty easily to stun then pound them with the cannon.

Left and Right handedness on my machine is a test of aim, as the FT is on the Right hand and if you run the game in Left handed mode you have a harder time aiming. And it would appear that the placement of the Minotaur in Left handed mode pushes the Mino further off the screen making the right hand at the very edge of the screen.

With the introduction of the Flamethrower we lost the ability to use the Minotaur Bore to "Flattten and Restore" terrain. The Flamethrower's icon is that of what use to be the Flatten tool of the "Bore" attachment. So I'm sad that is gone. Made for a awesome tool to make tall / wide roads thru the rounded/square stump mountains found on various planets. You could drive your Colossus thru. Oh well.
