Stellar Extraction Core
Anyone know if the Stellar Extraction Core is working as one might think it should? As in it collects and doesn't lose your shizzle of shizz.

Most of the time it works as expected, but every once-in-a-while it still loses a stack of previously collected goods. I keep one installed and collect Chromatic Metal occasionally.

Checked mine tonight in the save I've got 4 installed in a section of my Freighter 4 wall units away from my main section. Spent time in the cargo holds moving thing and then ending the frigate missions (5) then made my way thur a corridor and into the industrial section that hold only Stellar Extractors.

NADA, and the timer was starting from scratch. It's FUBAR. Been FUBAR, Gonna be FUBAR.

Use a mod, that will fix it, AND give better variety to the materials it will collect.

in my experience, it depends... they're very similar to the Freighter Refiners... sometimes they keep the stuff and other times they eat it... i have not found a pattern but i've also not tested specific and various situations... sometimes a reload will bring the stuff back and other times not...

The stellar extraction cores (and freighter refiners too) seem to be the most reliable by warping your freighter into a system (not summoning it in) and then not moving your freighter from this "default position" which will be nearby a star system's space station.

Otherwise, I noticed that if I summoned my freighter while on foot from the surface of a planet, for example, the freighter's Z axis will randomly invert (i.e. the freighter and whole frigate fleet's orientation flips upside down so that the top of whole fleet is toward the planet) after leaving and returning to that star system. It seems to be when the Z axis flip happens that items are lost in extraction cores and refiners. Similarly, the lost items return if the freighter's Z axis flips back while it's still parked in the same exact spot.

Years back when NMS first implemented freighters, I built a teleporter on my freighter and then summoned my freighter to a different spot within the same star system. When I then tried to teleport onto my freighter, I got teleported to empty space- i.e. the star system coordinate where my freighter teleporter was built instead of to where my freighter and its teleporter was moved. So, it seems the problem is that extraction core, and refiner contents are tied to the star system's coordinate location instead of a freighter's. It's definitely not weird. Don't make this weird.

They're big, noisy, don't work. Don't build them any more.

i always build mine at the rear of the Freighter Build Area because they were a lot noisier than they are now...

when everything works properly, i pull out 350u of whatever out of each of them every day that i care to... most of the time, that's Chromatic Metal because i leave my Freighter sitting in a Yellow Star system... occasionally this doesn't work and their timers start when i check them... i have not noticed a definitive pattern that causes them to not work properly, though...

the worst part is having to interact with each machine installed... one of my saves has 20 of them (split into two rows of ten)... it makes me wish for a "Harvest All" button on each one of them so i can walk by with the interact button held down like the Knowledge Stones, red Carbon flowers, yellow Sodium flowers, and similar...

As regards this particular issue, I have found that opening each one at the beginning of a session seems to "bootstrap" them, making them start working again from that point forward... unless I leave the system. Sometimes, they're even full when I check them... but just as often, they start off empty.

They're janky, noisy, and buggy, but in large quantities they can be quite useful... at least until you have mineral extractors and gas extractors, anyway. Those are the real MVP in this game; nothing like popping to a base, picking up multiple stacks of materials, then teleporting away again... and they always work; no trying to guess whether there will be anything in them when you show up (unlike refiners, autonomous miners, atmosphere harvesters, antimatter reactors)... the list of things that don't actually function is still much larger than it should be, this long after release.

I've only once had a full stock in some extractors... not all of them, just some of them...
and after it was just re-summoned.
Every other time I've tried to collect from them, the meter only started when I arrived at the base (or loaded the game if I'd saved there)...
