Is there a way to get the Singularity Engine Blueprint?
The Singularity Engine is the only reason to talk to the Captain of my Freighter, and I've never even seen one.

This post (https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/3464975249558074454/) asks about it, and from all I can tell from the wiki it's only available if I cheat or otherwise deviate from intended gameplay? It seems like a penalty for not playing the game back then, one that makes talking to the Captain of your freighter add a mocking grey option for no reason?

Though there is no way to learn the blueprint without using mods or the save editor, you can get one legitimately, no cheats, mods, or save editing required.

Freighters in the wild have a chance of having one already installed. They are actually relatively common. So you just have to find one, then buy it. If the freighter isn't one you want to keep long term, you can then uninstall it (by packaging it up) then go get a freighter you actually want to keep and install it.

Of course, that does mean you lose whatever freighter you have right now. I always make a point to find a freighter with a singularity engine before I invest in any kind of slot-upgrades on my freighter in a new save.

If you already have a freighter you like, I recommend starting an expedition on that save and searching for Singularity Engine there. Once you find one, uninstall it and be certain to put it in one of the technology slots of the Expedition Terminus before you end the expedition.

I've seen this posted several times now and I think there is slightly more to this.

I have never seen a freighter with one in 8000+ hours.
But, I never did the original or redux of Expedition 8 (Polestar) so had never "seen" the tech. It didn't show up in my Catalogue & Guide > Technology > Freighter (its slot was just marked with ???).

I have recently done the expedition redux using the offline method, so I do now have the tech in my "seen" list.

It will be interesting to see if I ever see one now. I suspect I will.

it should be noted that like "Derelict Freighter", "Singularity Engine" is used for more than one thing in NMS... you can get one from some Derelict Freighter dungeons but they are not the same thing as the one in Expedition 8: Polestar... or they weren't the last time i looked and tested... this may have been due to a defect in the code that may have been fixed since then, though...

i guess that since the current redux expedition is a mashup of the original Beachhead and Polestar expeditions that you get one in it... i'm not sure and haven't played this combined redux...

in any case, when i went looking on the wiki, i found a couple of Derelict Freighters that do have a Tech device called "Singularity Engine" but i never found the Glyphs for the systems they are in... i wrote about my search in here and on Reddit and had numerous people pointing out that they were not the same thing as the one in Polestar... this may have changed, though, if it was a defect/bug and it was fixed...

I think it's stilll just RNG, just like the normal game.
I've done the current Beachhead expedition twice now and did not have a Singularity Engine in either of them.

I obtained one from defeating, well actually "capturing" a Pirate Freighter, oddly enough during the Beachhead Polestar mashup aka Beachhead Redux

Edit: No I didn't!

It's in name only - my captain cannot use it

Interesting. That is a different singularity engine than from the original polestar. The expedition engine allowed you to use wormholes to jump thousands of LY towards the center, sort of like a black hole for freighters.
Jaggid Edje Nov 17, 2024 @ 7:46am
@Geldric, That's a different singularity engine. That's a procedural technology which has a 'random" name, but the in-code name is "Salvaged Freighter Module".

This thread is talking about the Singularity Engine that is a static (non procedural) technology which generates a black hole and warps the freighter through it. It's actual in-code name is Singularity Engine.

Edit; It is worth mentioning that @wkitty42 was talking about the same type when talking about Derelicts. But again, that's just a randomly displayed name based on the seed, not the actual name of the item within the game code.

ok... i wasn't sure if it was in this redux mashup or not...

FWIW: in goatfungus' save editor, the one from Polestar is
Technology->Freighter->Singularity Engine
when adding an item to the Freighter Tech area...
the other ones found on some Derelict Freighters are one of the 28 different
Technology->Procedural->Salvaged Freighter Module
items...
you'll know you have the right one when the option to use it is available when you talk to your Freighter's NPC Captain on the Freighter Bridge...

EDIT: you guys type faster than i do... especially when i'm looking and testing things LOL LOL LOL

Did you get this from the expedition, or a random freighter? I have been boarding every freighter I encounter now, but haven't had any luck yet. 0 for about 12 right now.

save editor or original Expedition 8: Polestar...

I have completed the current expedition from my main save and thought I would hunt around for the singularity engine before ending it. Am I on a wild goose chase? I have one of these modules that helps expeditions on another save, but its not the right one.
