This is ridiculous
I played 40 something hours. I put the larger of that into upgrading my ship.

I have 6 ships now. I bought a seventh in a station. The one I was in when I bought it, an S class packed to the gills with mods and stacks of items is gone. I don't mean the freighter isn't loaded. Of course it didn't load. I didn't accidentally press the wrong purchase button. I distinctly remember, purchase and add to collection, not swap and trade in ship.

I got no warning. I have no saves. I specifically pressed a button that was meant to prevent me losing my ship for the new one. Nothing told me about a ship limit. 40 hours is weeks of playing this game and not much else, all wasted.

There are bugs in this game and poor gameplay issues. This is a disaster. I really can't see myself starting again from scratch.

Did you try summoning your ship while aboard your freighter?

The freighter will only carry up to 6 of your ships, but you can have up to 12 ships available for summoning. You can summon ships that are not already on your freighter, and the summoned ship will replace your current ship as the active one.

The ship isn't gone. They just raised the ship limit up to 9.
You can call it onto a planet or into your freighter with the Quick Menu.

Before panicking and blaming the game, "bugs" and whatever else, try using the tools you're given and not making assumptions...
So many people around here so quick to do that without taking the time to actually investigate and learn. :steamsad: It makes me sad that people's first reaction is to panic...

Furthermore, why would losing ONE SHIP mean you have to start all over? I won't tell you how to play but perhaps you shouldn't "put all of your eggs in one basket", as the old expression goes...

^^^ this is correct, we can have TWELVE (12) ships now.... The OP just needs to learn how to "summon" one.

All that to tell us you have no clue how he game handles ships since the increase to 9.

Look in you X menu to swap ships and you will see your 7 ships. Nothing is lost.

As several here have pointed out, we can now own 12 ships.
The change took place in February's Fractal update.
https://www.nomanssky.com/fractal-update/

EXPANDED STARSHIP FLEETS
Grow and diversify your ship collection with three additional slots, raising the maximum fleet size to twelve.

We can own 12 ships, but the freighter can only show 6, if you need one of the ships that are not shown, you can use the X menu to shift your current ship to one of those that are not currently visible.

If you use the teleport, only your current ship will be displayed, but then of course you can also change ships with the X menu.
To see 6 ships again, do a reload, or move the freighter.

You can own 12 starships in the current game. Visit the Anomaly and you can see all your starships by cycling through them, to choose the appropriate ship before exiting the Anomaly. It's a fast way to change ships before participating in a Nexus mission.

The following tip may spoil initial progress in the game if you are new. However long time players or casual players, who know the game well, may find the tip helpful, to make progress quickly and simply spend their time more efficiently having fun exploring.

In options, Difficulty Settings now can customise your game to your style of play. There are settings there to 'speed up' game play progress if you ever do decide to start again and put your energy into playing and not grinding.

There are bugs in any game. Hello Games work especially hard and creatively to remove game bugs frequently, often making QoL adjustments at every opportunity of adding new content..(quality of life).

It is like many other things non-intuitive.

The game is designed to keep three freighter pads open for NPC traders and guest players to land. When they increased the ship ownership limit past six they did it the quick and cheap way and just allow you to summon ships from the ether.

It would be nice if they added a hanger deck below the flight deck or at least added a controll panel to move ships from the flight deck to "storage".

I wonder how many other players have been confused to the point of rage-quit by this.

I love the idea of another flight deck that has pads for all 12 ships! Leave the main flight deck as it is, but just add this new one.

In the future, ask first. The thing about NMS' nature of Exploration isn't just in exploring planets, it's also in exploring the gameplay and features. As such, the game actually tells you very little about what you can do. The MSQ only teaches you the most basic of things you can do, but really, the systems are FAR more complex.

This is why I frequently discover new in-game tricks, even after 3000+ hrs playtime.

NMS takes the general trend of using "player community" for free customer support to the next level.
