Game Crashes on Launch, Problem With nvcuda64.dll
So, I just bought the game and it won't launch. It loads for a few seconds on an invisible full screen then crashes every time.

I've tried reinstalling, updating drivers and all other basic troubleshooting procedures. There was another thread here recently that had this same problem, I applied all the fixes I found there fruitlessly, and it was eventually fixed by reinstalling Windows, but I'd like to avoid doing that. This is what event viewer says:

Same here, a few of other games I haven't played for while also showing same module error.
Hope some one found a solution. I already tried reinstalling GeForce experience, no luck

Another user recently had this same problem, and both I and another techish guy had them do all kinds of crazy crap over 2 days that didn't fix it. Exact same. Same nvcuda64.dll. Same Windows Error Code. Same Faulting Module Path.

Your Windows Error (aka Exception) code is 0xc0000409. This is a memory-access error, which usually means an Assembly programmer did something dumb (but NMS is not written in Assembly), but can also mean there is corruption in the Windows System Files.

Best suggestion is to run the command "SFC /SCANNOW" from an Elevated Command Prompt. If that one step doesn't fix it, the other user ended up doing a fresh Windows Installation.

I ordinarily consider an OS reinstall to be drastic and stupid, but MS has been getting continually (and exponentially) worse at building Operating Systems since Ballmer retired, so that's what it is.

An update to bios, nvidia driver, etc.. seem to have allowed the planet flyby(startup of game) to continue and the graphics seem better but still crashes at this area.... What is this for? Is the game still loading at this point? what is after this?

Your problem is totally different and you should start your own thread.

Your faulting module is nvogl64.dll which means your problem is with nVidia's OpenGL driver, not the CUDA driver as with this OP.

Your Windows Error Code is 0xc0000005 which suggests something as simple as a user-access-permission problem with the driver installation.

Try updating your driver to the newest, and if that doesn't work then roll it back to the previous. This probably won't work for this OP.

I did verify the game files in Steam.

Your driver is not up2date, please follow this steps

Go to
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Fill out the formular with your data
http://prntscr.com/101avf4 (thats just an example)

And choose a GRD (Game Ready Driver
Download the file and double klick on it ... The installation will start

Antivir is the SentinelOne ? than you need exclude NMS in control panel.

I sifted through this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/6756004301619885223/ and applied all the fixes you recommended to Mexipally, including uninstalling Overwolf, OBS + hook, Reshade etc. Reinstalling Windows was what solved this for him, but again I would like to avoid doing this as I don't have a drive on me that I can back files onto.

I have also gone though and used DDU + NVCleaninstall to rollback on each individual Game Ready driver from November 2022 to now, so it really doesn't feel like it's a driver problem, even though nvcuda64.dll appears to be directly related to GPU drivers. I have also run the "SFC/SCANNOW" command to no avail.

It is also worth mentioning that I have had problems with CUDA capabilities within various programs and games in the past several months, the most prominent is that I am unable to use my GPU (RTX 3060) as the primary device for rendering in 3D programs like Cinema4D and Blender, although I was able to use my card like this fine in the first year and a half of getting it new (it's only about 2 years old and works flawlessly otherwise). I have fiddled with some CUDA specific troubleshoots in the past to no end, I fear this problem may be related to this as I have no idea what is actually wrong with how CUDA is set up on my PC.

@weed

Faulting module name: nvcuda64.dll, does not necessarily mean that this is the culprit.. sometimes its a false positve because something before did fail..

The reason why I did ask about Overwolf .. Reshade or Antivir was the
Exception code: 0xc0000409... that (but with another Fault offset) was a hint in the past in the direction of Overwolf...

Hello, with the same problem (but in the different game), for me helped uninstalling all Nvidia drivers using the Display Driver Uninstaller. The thing is that I have an AMD video card installed, but the old drivers from Nvidia probably caused conflict and crash. If you have Nvidia card, you may consider update the driver or unistall it using DDU and than install it again

I have already run through DDU (I actually used it every single time to reinstall about 5 different fallback drivers to no avail) and didn't have a problem with driver conflicts like that. I'm fairly certain that because my PC is about 7 years old, despite the mostly new hardware, it may just be suffering from unexplained age related problems as I've also noticed a lot more incredibly weird, and TOTALLY inexpiable bugs happening with games.

It's probably been wrecked over by Windows updates and their lack of automatic cleanup procedures for past versions over so many years.
