It's also more interesting when doing the base building itself, as is building on planets with aggressive predators. Makes even just base construction have a little bit of challenge.
I have a little fun with this in the early game, yeah. In the same periods I get my adrenochrome on by harvesting Whispering Eggs without building walls around each clutch.
Since 2016 I have never once decided which mission path to pursue first. I guess I'm a space monkey.

nothing like an early game (1st -> 3rd system visited) base on an extreme world with aggressive sentinels and/or predators in survival/pd modes...scratching out a living chasing storm crystals (alas r.i.p. my A.I farms)...gets the blood pumping
Anyone on permadeath who dies from falling through the freighter floor probably shouldn't be playing permadeath.
