setting up a base on an extreme weather planet
anyone else enjoy setting up a base on an extremely harsh weather planet where you cant see anyhting, lightning is flashing and wind picks you up and tosses you around, health drops quickly( i like to see how long i can last before running for cover, i love it in permadeath, seriously

I do, I used to have a base in a crashed Freighter on a super toxic planet with extreme storm to harvest crystals

My favorite planets to have bases on are the various types of extreme weather. I just find it more interesting than Lush worlds with mild weather, because it is different from what I see out my (irl) window. I especially like the storms with lightning strikes, I just like lightning.

It's also more interesting when doing the base building itself, as is building on planets with aggressive predators. Makes even just base construction have a little bit of challenge.

I have a little fun with this in the early game, yeah. In the same periods I get my adrenochrome on by harvesting Whispering Eggs without building walls around each clutch.

Since 2016 I have never once decided which mission path to pursue first. I guess I'm a space monkey.

Or teleport to the Frigate you just recalled from expo just to find out that it hasn't arrived yet XD

Most of my bases are on extreme planets. You only really need your ship on non-extremes.

+1
nothing like an early game (1st -> 3rd system visited) base on an extreme world with aggressive sentinels and/or predators in survival/pd modes...scratching out a living chasing storm crystals (alas r.i.p. my A.I farms)...gets the blood pumping

building a base on a crashed ship and having aggressive sentinels is something lovely to try

They now have a feature to reset position on freighter, which teleports you back to the bridge (or in front of the teleporter if you have one). If you hit escape quickly enough when you fall through the freighter you can use it. If you don't hit escape quickly enough, you can still reload your last save before you die.
Anyone on permadeath who dies from falling through the freighter floor probably shouldn't be playing permadeath.
