A Trace of Metal Quest bugged

This issue is almost a year old now, Why has hello games continued to update the game but not fix old quest bugs? I have to resort to a save game editor and that may not even prevent the bug from happening again. I am pretty sure my save file is bugged now so thanks.

I just finished A Trace of Metal on my current save, and have done it about 8 or 9 times in the past year on other saves. I have yet to have any issues with it.

What bug is happening for you?

I have to talk to Polo after talking to all the iterations, and he just sais "me and nada are friends and you too yayyyy" and that is all. since its in the anomaly I cannot travel over 1k or so to reset it. I had yet to talk to polo at all until I started the quest, so maybe that is why he defaulted to his normal first time speech with the player. that being said he will not talk about the drone creation.

oh and even tho my quest sais 2/3 components collected, I have the drone from talking to the NPC again but the quest has not updated.

To be clear, you are sure you talked to ALL of them? There's more than 3 people to talk to (i.e. you don't get an item from every conversation.)

You might be onto something with that point about never having spoken to Polo prior to doing the mission. It should be an easy fix with the save editor though.

yes I am sure I talked to 5 of them, my quest tells me to talk to Polo only now.

Other people have had the same problem when they hadn't talked to everyone at the Anomaly prior to starting A Trace of Metal. If you highlight the Anomaly quest you should be able see who you haven't spoken to and hopefully, when that quest updates, Polo will respond correctly.

mind you, I have the drone already but the quest thinks I have not created it. I am pretty sure my entire save is corrupted now.

I have it updated now to where I need to do alone amongst the stars, and they will contact me when needed. Still no change to the questline. I will try re-loading and doing other things.

I always run this mission after starting Expanding the Base which means I’ve already started Artemis and talked to Polo. Never had a problem with it after 12 run throughs.

Looks like OP and others have a timing issue.

Looks like the devs need to make it work regardless of "timing" a quest that can be started with other quests should not cause issues for the players who then need to either Edit saves with mods and or restart progress completely. It is entirely the dev's fault for the bug and it has been over a year now according to posts ive seen.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you, @SethLikesPie, but you made this post in a community discussion area, which is not the place to ensure feedback gets to the devs, so I imagine people assumed you wanted to discuss the issue.

Edit: in case you weren't actually aware of it, the place to provide reports of game issues to Hello Games is here[hellogames.zendesk.com].

They don't have much presence here in the Steam discussions, other than the stickied thread on experimental at the top, and you can bet that they do not read every single thread created here.

Easier said than done. With only a few players in the position I doubt it's high on a fix list.

I have done it several times myself without any issues. BUT, there have been a few other times on other quests that doing other things out of sequence can make it hard to complete.

Thanks for the info, I was more or less hoping people would know the answer, I just downloaded the save editor and looked at it, but it does not have the ability to reset quests. Also I highly doubt they will fix it even if I did mention it there as it has been over a year now.

Yah, you would have to do a raw json edit to edit the quest steps themselves.

For someone who understands all that, it would be a relatively simple edit to set it such that it considers you as having gotten 3/3 and have advanced to the next step. But I can see that isn't an easy taslk for someone who does not understand that.
