Best current methods for finding exotic ships?
I've been using the following methods:

- go to space station, reload, see if its got a 1st wave ship

- Park my character in a 3-star system trading station with the volume cranked, go in another room to do something else, hope the sound happens (this could take 10 minutes or hours)

- Go to trade station, put down save beacon, keep reloading restore point until an exotic lands (honestly, this didn't really serve me better than the above method and it involved me sitting there being bored out of my skull)

- Park freighter near entrance to space station and wait for one to land in the freighter (after putting all your ships on a planet so there is space free'd up). basically the same as camping a space station

Is there any methods I'm missing? I have heard that if you do the freighter battle (not the pirate one) and you see 5 pirate ships instead of 7 it means one of those is an exotic and you can at least see which one that system has before camping it

FYI-not interested any save editor methods. If I were gonna do that I'd just look on youtube for ships people already found and posted. That's how I got my squid years ago and it came with zero sense of satisfaction.

Also, is a 3 star economy (non pirate) system still the best kind to camp for an exotic?

Thanks in advance

The best odds for seeing an S class ship, including Exotics, is at Pirate system trading posts. 1% in a class 3 system versus 20% in a pirate system. Once I get my money making and nanite farming set up in a play through I farm S ships for storage augmentation. You'll get a lot fewer exotics versus s class ships, but still many more exotics than in a space station.

so the odds of exotics are that much higher in pirate systems? I had no clue. Looks like i've been doing this wrong. is it really 19% higher? thats kinda huge

I routinely shop and pick up Esses till I hit the max, scrap them and do it again

- Luck and not trying.

I learned many years ago that if you want an item in a video game, it will never drop. You have to not care. You have to let go. Then, they're everywhere.

I agree with SapienChavez. By not looking and trying, I found a few squids, a lot of other exotics and S-freighters. But then I've played MANY hours in the past. In the more recent years I was collecting Rasas (the fighters with the short round nose). They are easier to find when checking coordinates on reddit. In my current game I only saw one in many hours. I scrapped my starter ship and made myself an S class purple Rasa so I'm happy again.

No they are not.

Odds of an S class ships are 5% in a pirate system. Exotics are a separate roll, ~0.35% and is is the same in all systems regardless of economy.

Thanks Lindy Bomber, I stand corrected. I know S class is much easier in pirate systems and a certain percentage of them will be exotic.

I'm seeing conflicting info , not just on this thread, but on redditt as well. Is there any official source? If it literally doesn't matter the system (this is just regarding Exotics) then I don't want to waste my time cherry picking 3 star systems if it statistically makes zero difference, anyone know for sure how it works with exotics?
