I died
so I died. i went back to my grave (difficulty settings are all "standard". I looted my grave, but theres no items. so i lost all my stuff. whats the point of a grave if you still lose your inventory? or did my loot get teleported somewhere else? how do i actually retrieve my stuff or is it just gone forever now

If you die twice in short order, your grave will be empty. That is the likely reason your grave is empty. Be quick on the save reload and you can often avoid this.

The game technical answer is your first death grave contained your stuff. When you died the 2nd, 3rd, or 100th time before collecting the stuff...you had no stuff in inventory so your grave is empty.

i learned about this, the hard way, on an expedition. i died at 3 am and just had to close the game. grave was far away, ship dmdg, we tired...

i collected much to many of everything for later use in the expedition. all gone :(
oh. yeah i did die twice. when i died it respawned me right in the middle of all the sentinels murdering me, but with no inventory i coudln't recharge or reload anything so i just kinda sat there stunned in disbelief as my miniscule remaining shields plummetted to zero again.

yeah. alright game. i see how it is.

Make a manual backup of your save folder frequently then you won't have to worry about losing your stuff.

why stand around waiting to die?
there is no shame in running away

running and then digging a deep hole (eventually seal it even with terrtain mani) helps. but i can get the "freezing".
thankfully most games offer different difficulties. some enjoy permadeath (this is too stressfull for me, i need at least the chance to get stuff back. but i dont want it too easy either).

you can single adjust many difficulty settings too and most of them do crossplay.

Sometimes it is not that easy. I died during one of the expeditions because I was just too far away from my ship and it caught me offguard so didn't think to call in the ship. I died from the hazards on my way to the ship (2nd death so I was screwed).

I manage to carry on, it was tougher having to gather up what I lost, but educational. More prepared if it was to happen again.

In OP's scenario, the game won't let you call in your ship until you wanted level is down. Depending on hazard protection, that can be a tall order. Sometimes just digging a hole is not enough to stop them looking for you. In theory, you can make it work, but in a storm with poor visibility and a bunch of sentinels...it can be hard to put it all together.

Mr. Bufferlow posted a window bat command to help users .

echo off set folder=%date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%_%date:~7,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2% set folder=%folder: =0% mkdir %folder% echo %folder% created xcopy "C:\Users\wbc\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS" %folder% /E

Create this bat file and put in in a folder you KNOW how to find and make a shortcut of the bat file and put in on your desktop.

thank Mr. Bufferlow again. needed it once since you posted it..

Did you try reloading your restore point? This is a separate save to the autosave. so you may be able to load back to before you died... (but, depending on your actions, you may have saved a new restore point)
