I agree totally. And what really sucks about that game mechanic, is logically, what happened to the rest of the parts of the ship? Do I only get one part and no scrap? Does all of ship transform to a specific part?
Makes no sense. The only thig that I did just to say I did it, I stayed at 3 or 4 space stations just to buy the ship, scrap it for that part, and did so until I found a combination I liked. And after I put the ship together, I was kind of mad that it did indeed take that long just for this kind of outcome.
Also, one thing to note, you can't scrap shuttle type ships and craft your own???
The main perk of having a frigate is that you get to send them out on expeditions. What I'd like to be able to do is to go on all of these expeditions they give us while piloting one of my many frigates. They have landing pads we can use when we repair them. We could easily park our ship on one of them and go to an expedition from there.
Exactly, Since I was scrapping THE ENTIRE SHIP, I was under the impression I would be getting ALL THE PARTS.
That would be a nice change, that way we could mix and match as intended without collecting hundreds of ships
It only took a few days as I recall but I just kept an eye out when doing other things. Probably could do it in a few hours if you get obsessive about it.
It is just another option of the multitude of options we now have thanks to updates. None of them are particular great -maybe bases are the one shining star of the bunch. They are just stuff to fiddle around with while you explore.
The main problem is this is really a niche game that only appeals to a few of us who really enjoy the exploring aspect. They made all the updates to drag in the dollars from those folks who really don't like the main game play loop. In all fairness, there is a good 100 hours of play even if you don't like the main game play loop so they are not really doing anything wrong by casting a wider net. It is just never going to turn into a First Person Shooter, A crafting game like Space Engineers, or a terraforming game like Planet Crafter.
You just have to go play some other game if you want that action. It will always feel like your itch is not scratched properly here.
personalized ship is just 1 of the ships to collectathon
maybe not the most memorable experience, but technically the most expensive thing to do or collect since to preview a ship you have to have salvaged the parts, each individual part takes up inventory space, and collecting a bunch of parts ends up costing tens of millions
its just the same theme as collecting ships except collecting parts. try making an observer with both wings as caps, its funny looking
Not sure if I will ever use them, because, also being 500 hours in, keeping ship slots free for fluff ships from expeditions feels more important than getting a custom ship that will probably never be used. But, honestly, no game is made for an infinite amount of plying time. And yes, with 400+ hours in, you are in the end game. Costs are trivial, most enemies are trivial, and what's left is just goofing around. And that is ok. Especially for a game like NMS, which is perfectly geared for just goofing around.
Solution for getting the whole experience again, of course, would be starting a new save. Personally, I don't think I would enjoy doing that and building up from rags to riches all over again, but I see many players do it and having an absolutely awesome time with it, too.
That said, I have been noticing that the longer I play, the wonkier my main save game appears to be getting. With a fresh save or during an expedition (same thing, technically) the game runs very smooth. On my main save, the game appears to be getting more and more laggy, my hud doesn't work properly anymore, and the game crashes once every couple of hours. Which is no biggy, it's not like I lose progress or anything. But at some point, I will probably lose all of it. Which will make me very sad, And also eager to finally actuallly go for that perfect custom built ship!
you need both the means and the finance to build a custom ship but by that time you've probably had the RNGods show/give you many, many great ships making the actual building of a custom ship for more than curiosity a mid->late game experience that many find bit of a let-down not to mention abit of a grind and some might even say boring...
so basically we should be careful wot we wish for
But yeah, only one part per scrapped ship is abysmal...
Would be great if the scrap dealers (the ones that give emergency signals) would sell a random selection of parts so you don't have to destroy a whole handful of ships just to make one...
I like the manner in which you introduced yourself/playstyle and extrapolated on what a late gamer experience with ship building juxtaposed to a new player's experience may be. That set a warm tone to the expansion of your thoughts.
Perhaps my use of the word "progressive" will not trigger emotions use in the context of how the developers have actually taken users such as yourself and modders ideas to heart and baked them into release after release after release. I think this is a community driven progressively expanding game.
Take for example (scratching surface) the personal refiner MK2, the dual slot refiner. I saw that on Nexus Mods way before it became options now.
Interceptors, last year; were the direction HG took as the mods for Sentinel type ships gained traction on the forum and in the mod space of Nexus.
All Ship parts/modules at a trade terminal are a draw on Nexus as well, and perhaps HG will lean in on the work and fashion it into work on an un yet designed Expedition.
Two new Races! Gear, multitools .. pfffttt. and the backstory.
Settlements, Pirate Freighters, New Space Station layout, Multitool scrape kiosk in Anomaly, Expeditions terminal in Anomaly. New skin and colorization on Minotaur, Worlds revamps biomes added water animation and new creatures.. ppfffttt
No small feat for an unknown small dev team my friend and one can choose several different New Game starts and adjust options to suit any situation.
400 hours is ALOT, but not compared to the late, Late, LATE Gamers.
So have faith my friend that your words are being read and ppl are thinking because of what you wrote.
