S Rank Pirate Dreadnought Question
So I recently ran into a system where a Dreadnought was fighting traders, did my duty to save the npcs and boarded. It was B class the first time but S class the second, so I thought great - and took it.
That being said, the storage/slot stats are not great compared to some A classes I've come across recently. Is it worth keeping because its better overall when I upgrade it? Or, are some S's not worth keeping? I don't know a lot about the upgrade process yet other than freighter storage upgrade items seem stupid rare.

Thanks

In general yes it is better to keep the S class
The once possible exception is if the A class has a close grouping of super charged slots.

If you found that S class freighter {encounter} in an Outlaw system, then it will be a max of 26+16. This is why it looked smaller than an A class you saw/had elsewhere. If you want to score a 34+20 S class, then you need to farm non-outlaw systems. Preferably a 3 Star Economy. If you are seeking a Dread and want a max size one ... same deal only the 3 star economy must be as least 2 conflict lvl. Anyhow this was my personal experience.

When I returned to the game a year ago ... I heard all the "Outlaw system ..." for freighters.{before dreads were added}. That was until I saw one for the first time and was confused as to why it came so small. Then I saw a C Class 34+20 {and laughed} in an outlaw system {not possible elsewhere}.

This same behavior extends to Interceptors and tools found in Outlaw systems. Want the largest C class you have ever desired? Search an Outlaw system.

Anyhow this detail is never talked about around here for some reason. It makes a big difference to vanilla players that want to start with the largest. So many people cheating anymore that it is presumed to be 100% ... so details like you will need more expansion items etc are glazed over as they are a non-factor to a cheater. That is my theory anyhow ... with the only minor exception being a player that stockpiled a lot of expansions over time. They may not care either.

This detail is not talked about much, because this is totally misleading issue as of now. Especially for new players, who chase it, thinking that it is something important. In fact, quantity of slots (anywhere) is not an important factor anymore (for more than 5 years I guess), because you can increase it. That's why people do not waste time for this.

Instead, it is better to look for the stats and supercharged slots placing - THIS is something you can't change.

Calling everyone a cheater here is also not good. Besides, even if somebody cheats - how is it your problem? It's a sandbox games. 99% plays with PvP off and most people even switch off multiplayer. So de-facto it is a single player game.

It really depends if you are keen to keep it. Folks like me who would be nitpicky if supercharge slots are clustered.

Otherwise, a S Class are usually great if your current freighter is of lower class, as it would open up more supercharged options and have overall better stats.

Always keep the S class it can be upgraded. Save up units, you may find a better one with better supercharge slot groupings. Would be nice if we could upgrade freighter classes one day.

You're probably right that many use exploits/save editors to get bulkheads and other rare items... but the only potential exploit I've used is making use of permanent dreadnought spawns (if this even is an exploit, I have no idea if this is an intended feature or not... but I've also got no idea how to trigger it if it is a glitch, so it still takes luck to find them).
And I still would advise taking the S class early if you thing you'll want it in the long run... Even using a permanent spawn it can often take hours of battles to get an S class to appear.
I'd prefer a few less slots in the short term, than waste hours later trying to get what I found by chance early on...

You can also use matter beam and storage rooms to massively expand the freighter storage and can access that storage at any time as long as the freighter is in the same system as you are

S-Class freighters are rare enough that I'd keep it. The class rating sets the maximum size the freighter can eventually be expanded to. So, while a Pirate freighter starts off smaller, in the end it will be as big as any other S-Class freighter can become. The only reason I can think of to not keep it is if you simply like how some other freighter looks more than what the Pirate looks like.
