ProTip: if you do not like fighting Sentinels, find a place to hide where you can shoot the Depot containers and destroy them... if done well enough, you can get everything, maybe even a sentinel or three, and be hidden before the Sentinels find you... once they de-aggro, you can go on about your business...
At manufacturing facilities, if you don't want to alert/fight sentinels, install a weapon that works from a distance. I use the Blaze Javelin. Get a good distance away from the locked door of the facility, to the point where you almost can't see the door. Shoot at the door with your weapon. It may take a few blasts, depending on which weapon you use and the upgrades you have for it, if any. If you do this, the door will come down and the sentinels will not be alerted at all. Be careful about the distance. If you're too close, the sentinels will alert. But, if this happens, you should still be able to run into the building before you take much/any damage, and the sentinels will deactivate after about 30 seconds once you're in the building.
Note: The above technique also works on dissonant planets, to destroy dissonance resonators to get the items they drop. Do it from far enough away and the corrupted sentinels guarding the resonators will never activate.
This has been your advice from a combat-avoidant player. :)
When you are mounted, sentinels stop shooting at you, so destroy all of the depots then summon your pet and ride away. That's what I always do if I don't feel like fighting them.
Drop a Base Computer, and build a building around the depot (with the individual parts; not the prefabs). You can put a door in it - or, like I have tried (basically just playing around with this - but it does work), finish it from the inside and put no doors.
That way, the Sents cannot get in, and you can peacefully blow up the containers. Then just wait out the "Sentinels searching" phase until they "decommission" (or whatever their word is). Then deconstruct the building.
It's overkill, but works. I've done it a few times over the years - mostly for fun and to observe how the Sents deal with it (my "usual" ways of handling depots are different - more in line with the other thread advice).
It's another option, anyways.. :)
I feel like its just waiting to be bought :D
You do realize that there isn't much of the item in those storage containers? If it has, say, herox, there is five piece of it, worth about 125,000 units. They aren't worth making a trade route over. And no, sentinels do not negotiate.
If you want to trade the sorts of things you find in resource depots, you're better off learning how to make/refine/collect the stuff they have in them yourself. It can't/won't happen until you've learned a few recipes, but you will find yourself with a much better profit margin, if making money is your thing in the game.
