It's a great game which I really enjoy, but I don't think even the biggest fans of the game would ever recommend it for the multiplayer aspect.
But you'll find out most activities are focused on solo playing anyway.
And to top it off, this last update seems to have really stabilized MP for a lot of people who were having trouble with it - although as per usual, there are some that say it is worse. Like every update.
My wife and I play together all the time - my nephew joins in a couple times a week, and on occasion my wife's D&D group all login and we will gather together on a derelict freighter, sweep it clean, start a countdown, everyone runs and hides, then we use it as a PvP arena in space! :)
