can't upgrade starship tech slots
Got a starship's tech slots up to 27, but it won't let me add any more tech slots. I can add cargo slots, but not tech slots. I click empty tech slots but it doesn't acknowledge it.

Note that this is a fairly old save game that was originally started back in 2018. Adding slots to ships seems rather odd in this save.

I think - and this is more guesswork than memory - if you move or uninstall the three items you have in that first visible column, you might see that one of the slots hasn't actually been unlocked, even though you've been able to install something there (or just check all the slots, if that doesn't work). Unlocking that slot should reveal the hidden first column and you can then carry on unlocking as normal.

I'm sorry if this turns out to be wrong, but it's hard to remember what I did after such a long time. It's worth a try anyway :)

I've noticed that sometimes I'll click a tech slot and it won't highlight, but if I go ahead with the upgrade it will appear like it should. Have you tried that? It's happened a couple times now for me.

No that doesn't do it.

What happens is, when I go to upgrade starship inventory. It naturally starts flashing one of the cargo slots to upgrade. I click on an empty tech slot to upgrade that, but nothing happens. If I go ahead and apply the upgrade, the cargo slot that was flashing will be added.

Take a screenshot of what you're seeing. There's a bug related to slots that can, rarely, happen specifically when the left-most column of slots is the one that actually wasn't unlocked yet (it can happen, super rarely, based on the initial configuration).

There is a way to get the unlocks to work properly, but it's been like 2 years since I've seen this happen in my game (it's that rare), that I can't remember for sure what it is. A screenshot may help me remember.

Otherwise, if you have access to a file sharing site, share your save file and I'll open it up and figure it out.

I'm having same issue. Just came in to look if capacities had been adjusted. I cannot click on any of the right hand gaps or scroll it down on the tech area.

This is exactly the same situation I have. those 3 right hand gaps can't be selected.

Incidentally, the ship I'm trying to upgrade is also an interceptor.

What class is the ship? The various classes have different limits for tech & cargo slots (although I think the limit is 30 tech even for a C-class ship, so that shouldn't be an issue ...). If it is C-class, and you have the nanites, you might try upgrading the class.

I do recall having a problem like this with my exosuit in one game, and when I finally maxed out the cargo slots, it let me add the rest of the tech slots, so that might be a possible workaround, although that would be a pain if you had not already planned to max both.

The interceptor in my screenshot was an A-class that I upgraded to S-class with nanites.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Perfect! I moved the left 3 items and went to apply augmentation. The first slot flashed even though it looked good. After that the whole lot jumped one square to the right. I could then fill in the left hand column and start on the row below as normal.

Had to award that help

Since the game update, if you make like 3 or 5 jumps, whether with your ship or freighter, the game stays in a loop in hyperspace, meaning that it no longer reaches the corresponding system, solve the problem.

I was so unsure it was the right thing to do, I almost didn't post it. I'm glad I did now!
Thanks for the award and happy travels

I'm glad you posted it. I mentioned the same bug previously in the thread, but it's so rare I couldn't remember the exact steps to resolve it nor could I find an older thread which I remembered giving the solution (years ago).

This is such an old bug, but seen so rarely.

Actually it was you who told me how to fix it. I couldn't find the thread either, but it might have been my post you remember in which you gave the solution.

I've passed on the award I was given to you. I feel you deserve it more than I do!
Jaggid Edje Apr 13, 2024 @ 6:09pm
Well, see, now I just had to give you an award too, because it really doesn't matter who provides the solution, only that the person(s) having a problem get the help they need. Co-op bug avoidance.
