Sub for looking for that lat underwater fauna.
Mech for combat sidekick
Everything else is storage.
Skiff for Fishing.
Some of the other Exo's I summon to use their scanners - but then it's my Starship and/or Nomad to get to the scanned site.
Have never really cared at all for the Minotaur (again, except for occasionally its scanner). It's to "destructive". I don't like clomping around destroying everything as I go (ala Avatar). And I just don't care for how it "handles". (That said, I actually haven't tried it since the past couple of updates; having already formed my opinions of it long ago - so I do leave it open that it *might* handle better today than it used to - but I haven't felt compelled to use it and find out - my distaste for it begin fairly strong).)
Nomad all the way, for me. Some of the others - just for scanning..
The rare exceptions to the above are those times that the radar/sonar are needed to complete some task. The majority of the time I'd rather melee jump top get around, and/or use my ship to get closer to some far off POI.
Typically I use any of the Exocrafts in 3rd-person. Occasionally flipping to 1st to read an instrument or to re-checkout the cockpit view (then generally back to 3rd).
^^^ I'll second. When moving about I find 1st person view in the nautilon, or minotaur is almost nauseating.
While I tried the minotaur as a fighting companion, I find it gets a) in the way too much and is b) damaged too easily. And I frankly don't need it.
As for underwater exploration - there's really nothing of interest for me there. I scan the fish and that's it.
