How I Was Able To FINALLY Fix Multiplayer! [2024]
So I spent hours and hours combing the internet for solutions, and I want to share for anyone else having this issue.

This is the first step I took:
1. Make sure that the game is Closed and Not Running
2. Go to Windows Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time
3. Turn on 'Set Time Automatically' AND 'Set Time Zone Automatically'
4. Make sure that the Time Zone that Windows chooses is the right one:
-If it isn't: Turn OFF 'Set Time Zone Automatically' but LEAVE ON 'Set Time Automatically' and manually set the correct Time Zone
-If it is: Go to step 5
5. Click the 'Sync Now' button
6. Reopen No Man's Sky and try to join your friend; if this doesn't work try it through Steam Overlay

If this does not work, as it didn't for me, it was because my time zone was locked in the off position, and the option to change it was permanently greyed out. Here is the fix for that:

You MUST set your location manually in the Privacy settings in Windows.
1-Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Location.
2-Under Default location, select Set default.
3-The Windows Maps app will open. Follow the instructions to change your default location.

Once THIS step was done, and my location was set, I no longer had any issues connecting to my friends. I really hope this can help someone out there, so you dont have to experience the frustration this can cause. Safe travels fellow Entities!

You are not leaking information, just re-jigging the system clock. You're not required to input your true location but because latency is very much a factor in global communications it does actually help to set one's system clock correctly. Location services is a part of that, so that's where this particular setting lives in the settings menu.

There's a reason soldiers synchronise their watches before going into battle.


Note: if you verify the status of your clock and the time jumps ahead noticeably when it syncs then the battery on your motherboard may be low on juice and will need replacing.

Standard CR2032 cell. Non-rechargeable, relatively cheap.

I understand. But my feelings are :

1-Multiplayer/sync is not new in Informatic.
2024, How many games, Satelites (coms, GPS, real time travel effects)

2-Even War Games with soldiers with need of clock sync dont need this to play XD -> ARMA 1, 2, 3, WoW, CS, Deep Rock Galactic, Wait...literaly all the games with sync dont need this.

3- Saying this, sync in games... but a game is a soft. Our http www internet need sync to surf online too, Google messagers, FaceBook, Whatsapp....

Even if i read you, I cant understand why we must defend and accept (strange anyways) a privacy seting to remove when nodoby need this, and nodoy use it. (how is doing the rest of the world and the apps?) To force a general seting to dont keep something in privacy in your system allow all others softwares able to use this seting to use it. Futhermore theere is the effet "I dont care" i change the param to work, and why to change it after...

Just WHY this game is special (versus all other multiplayer games) to have to do this, and WHY this technology/code was chose vs others multiplayers sync solutions ?

all the other games were multiplayer from the start this game was single player from the start then the tacked on multiplayer why it doesn't work right

We know this, but your/this "answer" is not an answer, it s like to use an Introduction as a Solution. I m realy speaking about they are not 16 years old, they are not with 10 bucks in the pocket.
Time gone since NMS 1.0 and we are in a real world.
Was they not able to pay/find teammates with knowedge in multiplayer-API-clock-system access whatever you want, since Pac-Man in multiplayer without to have to change a GENERAL PRIVATE SETING that all apps can use, because general setings of corse. REALY ? When there is no problem with WoW, EvE, CS ...

Sorry, this is my not my definitive opinion, but argumented answer until now. Explain more if you know more. Because for me, we are speaking about a specific call type with the system, not about the stability of a code working inside a system. I want to say dont confuse and in same time prouve me I m wrong.

Edit (or hacked trash code injected...but your answer cant be the good one, the full one)
