Nah. That'll probably never go away. It's a bummer, but the game loads a LOT of information for not having loading screens.

It's much better than it was but you would have to test and see. It's almost instantaneous for me, just a tiny blip in time. I like it. In actuality it should burn like fire and kill your ship. Be glad it doesn't.

Personally, I only get a split-second hitch when leaving a planet and it's not that bad. At least you don't have to fast-travel teleport everywhere lol

Yeah, for me it's the barest of hitches, too.
That and it lets me instantly know I truly have left the planet ... so I can swing my ship around and speed fly to that marker point on the other side of the planet. :P

I don't think this is something that the devs are going to "fix." It's a result of the fact that all of the game files are heavily compressed, so that the game takes up less storage space. So, every time you leave a planet, the file containing the instructions to make "space" has to be decompressed. This can take varying amounts of time, depending on one's hardware.

I'm on an old computer and the "lag" is not even a second for me, so it doesn't bother me. But, if it really bothers you, check out this: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/2672

I don't use it myself, but as I understand it, it just decompresses the relevant file(s) so that your computer doesn't have to decompress them, thus eliminating that lag.

There's nothing to fix: it's hardware related, not software.

I first played NMS on a GTX1050Ti and the lag was considerable, but when I got an RX6700XT it practically disappeared.

I use the MOD mentioned above and I'm back to smooth as butter entry and leaving the planet. Absolutely worth it imho.
I never used to notice it at all when I played back on my Ryzen 2400G (I think?) a few years ago. Just the built in Vega graphics. Now, even on my 5700XT I get a tiny little hitch, so I use the MOD and no problems. Probably to do with having had to play on lower texture settings or something before, I dunno.

That likely will require a complete engine overhaul to fix. I'd expect it in a sequel at best.

wrong. it's a software/game issue. The post above talking about compressed files is the exact problem, and there is a mod that fixes it by simply decompressing the one file in the file system and leaving it that way.

"Feature, not bug."

That's how they built the game: with compressed files to reduce disc space. The pay-off being that it takes time to expand them, which can be reduced with more powerful hardware.

The mod doesn't "fix" anything, it just takes a different approach: prioritising time over space.

The mods I've seen just extract all folders and files in MODELS\SPACE\NEXUS\PARTS from within the NMSARC.MeshMisc.pak file and repack them into a new .pak file with the compression setting disabled. This file then has 159.1 megs. Just for the lulz I repacked specifically these files into a .pak with compression setting enabled, and then it has 58.4 megs.

This means the "feature" that causes a recurring lag that annoys a lot of people saves a whopping 100.7 megs out of the 15,053 megs my PC install currently has. Just saying...

I am also in the camp of not minding this. It gives a visual blip of when you can orbit skim or hit the pulse drive. It is only a few frames for me and isn't overly noticeable. I have spent so long in this game that I am not really looking at what I am doing and use a lot of the glitches and sound queues to move around. It just becomes how you play after a while, mindlessly running/flying towards something while you're looking through inventories or checking your phone waiting for that beep or frame freeze to know to do something. An example is the sound your jetpack makes as it gets close to running out, I couldn't tell you where on screen the fuel meter is for the jetpack because I haven't looked at it in years.
I hope they never change some of these things, it is what makes the game interesting, finding glitches and incorporating them into your gameplay style.

Yeah, some things really are features and expected. Of course if it actually causes problems then that may be an issue but for a lot of us it's part of the magic of the game. Most folks complaining about actual game play are just passing through anyway, hot on their 30-50 hours so they can rush on to another game to spend no time in. The circle of life.

I once ran into a *bug which stopped the hitching when leaving planets. At first, it was awesome, but after several planetary entries & exits, the game began to lag overall and my fps continually dropped, until I saved and restarted.

I'm not sure what is exactly going on, but it seems the game is unplayable without this hitching occuring.
