First thing I do is get my frigates up to 30, with at least 5 organic, I park my freighter in a 3 star system and hope the gods are with me so I get at least one or more SFMs a day.
I go to every space station and look for quests with SFM rewards and do them.
Do crashed freighters on planets.
Go to pirate systems and ck out the cargos on the freighters there tho that seems to be nerfed from the good old days.
Get your ESS, dupe a few, learn to put the ESS in your pack so you can reuse it and not pay 5mil per pop, that's on you then do all of the abandoned ships, one per system. If you are really on this then go ck out some vids on the best ones and do them.

Tarting up your freighter to more than a very nice walk in closet is one of the few rare end game minigames that hasn't been dumbed down to a ten minute wham bam thank you maam and that's a good thing. Nothing about the process is needed so consider it a luxury and just level it up as you can. Or cheat, a lot of folks do that, your choice.

It's certainly nothing to get your knickers in a knot about. Just saying...:lunar2019crylaughingpig:

This is (these are) the way(s) :steamthis:

More like hunter-gathering than farming though :)

Indeed it is. I love the challenge until I don't any more but with 4.5k hours in, it's one of the fun mini-games I always seem up for. I used to love the challenge of buffing up the Living Ships but the nerf to and revamping of that challenge through frigate quests really ruined it. Turned what could take weeks or months into instant gratification which was a shame. For me anyway but I have more time than most.

The only occasion where I put an extra effort into obtaining them is missions. Other than that, I just play the game and almost have all the tech unlocked.

Simply playing the game is the best way to get just about everything. As long as you've got the patience. And the time, of course.

When I needed a bunch in a short time, I Farmed them from Civilian Freighter Fleet Cargo Pods. If it got too hot, I booked to the Space station to Dock. Later I worked on bringing that Race Rep Back Up, If I thought I needed to.

Raid Freighter Cargo Pods in a Pirate System

Patience.

I found it best to not spend them until first getting the hyperdrive modules so I could summon it in any system and the exocraft room - though that I think you can buy without salvaged frigate modules. It's also nice to get the scanner room. If I see a system mission with a SFM reward, I run it immediately and many times, the next mission also offers one. Remember that system and come back to it often to check for missions that offer it. Same with the nexus. If you see the reward, run the mission right away before it disappears.

save editor.

why grind? The game has enough fun grinds (searching for ships/planets/animals/multitools/etc), I skip some of the boring grinds.

If you want a steady stream of them and don't need a bunch quickly... Plunk down a save beacon or a base computer at maybe five crashed freighters you find. The loot in the cargo pods respawns periodically. So, periodically visit your marked freighters and collect the SFMs and other stuff.

Good idea. Thank you

starting at level 6 with races or factions in space station missions.
planets with water with the nautilus finding sunken freighters, (they have 6 containers at least 1 gives frigate modules)

Submerged crashed freighters actually have 7 containers and there's still no guarantee you get a module.

See a freighter crashed on a planet open the 6 pods.

I've not even tried to get them, and I have 37 already and see nothing I want to buy with them at this time.

Freighters in the system you warp into. Look at their cargo. Some have them. Shoot that one and get one. You'll piss them off, but such is life.

I've never used my Freighter as a base. I use it to launch missions and nothing more. So, I'll probably never use the units I have now. I see no need for them. 98% of my freighter space I don't even open. There's no need for it.

Just my 5 command centers, a teleporter and a place for my spare ships. Everything else seems like a total waste of time. I have a base a planet that has everything I need. Why build another. There's no reason.
