So... What's next for No Man's Sky?
I've way too many hours into this game. Yet the possibilities for future enhancements / expansions is well, probably unlimited.

Anyone have any solid info on what might just down the road for us?

Note: I've heard about their 'new' game - which to me, from all the video I've seen, looks and acts nearly the same as NMS with different characters and some fancier building techniques. Not sure I see anything in it that will draw me away from NMS.

So yup... just looking forward to 'What's Next'.

Sorry, crystal ball fell off the table and rolled under the buffet. I think it was eaten by the dust bunnies. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Sean says we'll like it though so I'm hopeful but have some old tomatoes in case he's wrong and I'm feeling vindictive. :steamdeadpan:

The next game is mostly an attempt to create an entire planet procedurally, with the most detail possible instead of billions of mostly same looking planets.

As for what's next for this game, nobody knows, maybe not even Hello Games.

Hello Games does not publish a road map, no one here has any solid information on what or when the next update will be.

The anniversary trailer shown at The Game Awards included a new space station that us expected this year. That is the only information we have.

The new game will be call Light No Fire. It will be a fantasy RPG on a proc-gen planet at least the size of Earth. Release date is unknown, could be anywhere between tomorrow and some time in 2027.

tbh i dont see a lot changing for quite some time the development will probably slow down a bit but likely wont stop.
why would they kill off the cash cow that NMS has been releasing a new game could bomb or me a massive success.
but until more information is released on how its going to work and for me its multiplayer would need to radical change from whats in NMS.

There will almost definitely be a space station overhaul. There were rumors last year about seeing code and views were shown in the official NMS 2024 preview. When or if something happens in between is everybody's guess.

They are a very small development house (I think max 40 people-and probably some of those are just basic company support). So whatever it is going to be- think small updates.

Now that they have to allocate staff between two games-with Light No Fire probably coming out late this year- I am not sure we should even expect what we have seen in the past.

They obviously believe there are some more sales out there for NMS, so I would guess we can expect Expeditions (either re-runs or new content) and there appears to be a story line developing. Disclaimer: We also thought the Nutrition and Settlement updates were going somewhere and that never materialized.

The only thing we know is there appears to be a new space station design and they have not said they plan to discontinue active development for the game. Naming the last Expedition update Omega is concerning.

Hmm.... My thoughts were a 'new game' would likely draw most of their talent towards it. I think I've read/heard Sean is of the opinion (paraphrasing here) "We'll keep working with NMS as long as we like working with it, as long as it's fun".

I've also head others express concerns over the name Omega.

But shoot... there's the "She" we have not yet encountered... I just look at the game as a huge opportunity to do so much more. I hope they do :-)
