NMS Needs: Inventory Search - Auto Sort - And more
No man's sky is a good game, but it need more quality of life improvements, following:

Inventory Search: The ability to search in the inventory

Auto Sort: The ability to auto sort your inventory

Planetary Search: The ability to search up planets and/or the ability to search up resources, and able to find the planet in the galaxy map (you should also be able to type Gold+Silver or Uranium+Sodium and it would show planets that contain both) (only for explored planets)

Multi-Selected Quests: The ability to have quests tagged at same time from log.

Updated Multi-tool Inventory: a overhaul of the Multi-tool select, easier to look over them all. (and to choose which multi-tool ability is first and last)

What do you all think? is there anything i have forgotten/not seen that should be on this list?

Thanks,

+1
The only thing I think it needs is the ability to see what your multitool is when you are on the multitool tab. I want to see if I have a pistol and if it is an experimental or what not. The only way I know how, is to compare it with what ever is being offered.

All the other stuff, I don't really think it is needed.

I would definitely like the ability to search inventory, especially since inventory can be spread out over lots of places. It'd be nice not to have to scroll through tabs when I forget where I stashed a particular thing.

Auto-sort, I'm not so big on, though it would be fine so long as it isn't required to use it. Sorting is a pretty individual-preference thing.

Planetary search might be nice, but I'm quite fond of the spreadsheet I created that can do what you're talking about and more. (I love making spreadsheets. If a game has data that I can spreadsheet, I am all in. LOL ) It does require manual data input, of course, but I have plenty of info at my fingertips. I do think there is a way to find what resources are on which planets via the catalog, though? I haven't explored that much (because spreadsheet), so I'm not sure what all it can do.

There are other QoL things I've thought of while playing the game that I'd like to have, but danged if I can remember what they are now...
  • You can hover over any resource item in the catalogue and pin it. Open the Galactic map and it will locate the nearest star system to find it.

  • Add the scanner room to your freighter. Use that and it instantly records ALL the planets as discoveries without having to locate each one individually.

  • There are useful filter tabs on several inventory displays that help identify items in an inventory. Particularly useful with a keyboard.

  • SInce the Waypoint update the game will now auto shuffle items in to similar stacks (already present) when transferring items for example into your storage crates on a freighter. You can be sure they end up in the correct locations without needing to open inventories and drag and drop.

  • The Freighter matter beam transfer device needs to be installed on your freighter for all the storage to be accessible from anywhere on planet surface or elsewhere so long as your freighter is present in the system you are in. Items can then be easily transferred back and forth.

  • Using the controller short cuts to pass items back and forth works very well and arguably as useful if not more useful in some situations than a keyboard and mouse. No need for dragging and dropping in many situations if the short-cut buttons are used and makes splitting stacks easy to use too.

  • You can also colour your storage crates and place similar colour items in each which is an alternative way to look for things quickly. Storage crates and ships can all be renamed too for easy recall.

It would be cool to have a room on your freighter that could access a multi-tool display perhaps moving tech from one to another. All our multi-tools we own on a display too.

Maybe also a scanner display in the ship hangar to do the same thing. Access that function by standing in front of a simple panel.

Cronus
I would like to be able to sell Cronus multiple items at once.

Yes, that was one I couldn't remember! Cronus and...Ares? The one who exchanges objects for nanites. Sometimes I want to do that because I don't want/need the units for the objects but would like the nanites, and when you have perhaps hundreds of the objects, it's bad to only be able to hand them over one at a time.

Automatic sorting. I have nothing but sympathy!
I get a little excited every time there is a modification related to the item case, but so far it has not been realized.
I believe it will happen someday, but it seems quite difficult.

That explanation helps a lot. I touched on this in my comment above. I didn't know about the mod thing. I like organising by colour. too, : D In addition to organising freighter stuff (2 slots for everything) I always carry one of every basic element resource item in my exosuit suit inventory so I am never short of a resource for crafting. Excess resource is deleted and existing stored resources just topped up while playing. During play, missions and exploring, there is always some resource being collected intentionally or randomly, so it seemed sensible never to delete any resource completely but always leave the minimum (1 of each).

With regard to crafting, By leaving the most basic resources in the exosuit (one of each), everything and anything can be crafted from blueprints. The blueprints do not take long to collect or buy, so once you own all those, you never are short if anything and always have them sorted in the same location.

Lastly if managing resources is not your thing and you simply want to go out into the universe and explore endlessly, why bother with managing at all. Simply adjust your difficulty settings, for any mode, to make resource gathering totally unnecessary. There is no need for crafting or recipe collecting. That's what the Waypoint update added to the game, custom settings for any style or mood of play. Any mode can be hassle free and switch back to any default modes when ever you like.

Indeed, while i play NMS, its sometimes hard to fully sort and sometimes end with stacks that is not full and i forget, ends up with a fuller inventory than needed.

NMS needs a million things and for start a complete overhaul of survival mechanics, combat and base building UI.

It will never happen. All changes have been minor/cosmetic for years and now HG is just trying to sell the game on any possible piece of hardware before they shut down development

I hope to see a Combat update.

but is it true to update just to shut down development? that must be a conspiracy

Look at the recent updates : new ship type (3 hours of art design with a couple beers ?) - purple crystals - 2 new multi tools (1 beer) - MAC version (actual work)

They only work on selling the game more, not improving it

The inventories are listed in XML. It shouldn't be that difficult to sort them. Aside from being puzzled that Hello Games hasn't done it, I'm surprised that existing save game editors feature reorganizing inventory on a grid like that in the game, but don't offer sorting, which would be easier to implement than what they've already implemented.
