Direlect freighters

How do you land on these? I cant seem to land on them and they always have 2 cargo pods outside the debris that always have gold in each of them?

You can't. You can only shoot the cargo pods for loot, then the pirates attack you. There is another type of derelict freighter , but that's for another time.

There are actually two kinds of derelict freighters with the same name. Naming conventions in nms are fluid.
1. Bunch of space trash that has a couple pirates. I think that is what you found.
2. A full blown derelict freighter all in one piece in space. You can find them by just pulsing but rarely. You want to go to Helios at the anomaly once a week and pick up the item he gives away, go to space, set it off and pulse till it shows up. They have 4 landing pads. Be sure you have cold protection. Have fun. Loot everything, kill everything, have lots of empty slots.

Just to clarify, there are actually THREE types of derelict freighters in space.

2 of them are close to the same (no landing pads, etc), but one has cargo pods the other does not.

Ahhh, but OP only asked about the one with 2 pods. (Oh C@@@@@, we're off on an @Geldric rerun of the 'offline' sidetrack, aren't we?)

Thanks for all the replies. The one that's not landable is the only one i ran across.. nice to know i wont be getting stuck inside the hanger of that unlandable one ne more. have not run across the landable one yet which is the one ive been looking for 4 some time.

TO quickly find ones that you can land on and go inside, go to a space station and visit the scrap dealer. ALL space stations (except abandoned ones) have a scrap dealer.

He will sell you an Emergency Signal scanner (via dialogue, not his store), and using one of those will ALWAYS find a derelict freighter that you can land on.

The first emergency signal scanner you buy each day costs several million units (the exact amount varies by difficulty settings), and each additional one on the same day is double the cost.

So happy about that.

I do think you need to do one derelict first before he gets that conversation option though. That's the reason I didn't mention it. In my most recent save (expedition 10 conversion), he didn't offer me a free one until I did my first one. Then he offered it immediately after.

Ahh, you might be right because I didn't get offered one until after I had done one. But then I thought maybe I had just done something backwards to have not been offered one before. Makes sense though I guess.
