There's also still a lot of multiplayer bugs, so there's that.
do you know why by chance? just wondering why vpn screws some of my games like this one =(
I'm no techie, so I can only guess. One possibility that would make sense to me is that you being "attached" to a virtual/proxy server might interfere with the necessary communication with the game server in some way. An analogous situation might be trying to talk to someone through a wall. But, like I said, not a techie, so I could be totally wrong.
Here are few more ideas.
1) Provider. I had rare issues with few other games, that either didn't allow me to connect, or launched mp game without any other players. Since I have few providers, switching between them solved the issue.
2) Modem. If you have some really old model, this may be an issue as well. Been there.
