Has anyone reached space with their Jetpack?

First time I've tried this. Exotifying planet with a "Gravitational Anomaly" storm once a day. Wondered how high I could get when I was nearly weightless. Turns out I can use my jetpack for a couple of seconds and then it'll recharge completely before I start to fall. So I kept going for a couple of minutes until I heard "Weather Update: Storm Clearing". What happens if I use some boosters? What happens if I reach space?

Yes, you can. When you reach space your hazard protection will drop to 0 (recharging won't help) and your life support will quickly drain. You can stock up on Life Support Gel or Oxygen to replenish it. You can also get to space from your freighter. Just build a door in any outer wall of your base there, exit and try to fly away from freighter. Or teleport to any of your frigates and jump off the landing pad.

Technically you can fly all the way to another planet this way, but you'll need a better speed boost for that and two planets close to each other. There's a bug when you build a chair or something else you can sit in right on top of an underwater geyser. Sit in it and the eruption will propel you into space and you'll be going much faster than by using your jetpack.

Ah, good to know. Stock up for the journey. Unfortunately, the planet I tried this on has no water, so the geyser's out. But I bet some food stuffs or a Deuterium plant before takeoff would kick things up a notch. :steamhappy:

Note that space follows the contours of the planet. It's not like a spherical ball around the planet. If you build a tall tower you will reach space at the same height regardless if you start from the bottom of a canyon or from the top of a very high mountain. Pretty sure all the above is correct someone can correct me.

I built a very tall tower on a very high mountain once. At the highest point if I jumped up I would start taking damage as lainverse mentioned.

IF you summon your freighter from the ground and make your way to one of the frigates you can also base jump from orbit. Lots of life support and hazard protection recharges and being brave with the jetpack (i.e. HALO jump) and you can survive.

I wasn't just trying to get to space, I was just trying to see how high off the ground I could get in the low gravity storm. I was amazed that I got to the edge of space before the storm ended. : )

That's the answer I was looking for! Been almost 3 years since these planets appeared with Origins and this is the first time I've tried this! :steamhappy:

Fabulous picture, btw.

Did it once on a low gravity moon.. Hit space, got a highest peak notice for a ridiculously high number, life support dropped to 0, and started taking damage, until I drifted back into the atmo. Managed to fall back to the ground, get recharged, and lived :)

(Also, was in VR and found I couldn't recharge my life support until I got back on the ground.. the falling made by wrist control flail around like crazy ;) )

BTW, you can glitch-build a Minotaur launch pad on your Freighter and play Titan Fall. XD
Not my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JH0vVru_BQ

And on how to glitch-build I recommend to watch this video and his channel in general: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He_zQSpqAbA
Second half is about building normal base parts on Freighter.
