Fishing on Gas Giant
Right now I'm on Rendezvous 3 gas giant and I'm planning to build a fishing base on it. But I just wonder how to find a place with water that is deep enough.

There are lakes on the surface indeed, but they are hard to locate due to the constantly messy environment and on top of that, their average depth is just a few u. The deepest lake I've found on a gas giant so far is 30u deep and I believe in order to catch every possible kind of fish, I'll need a depth of at least 50u, unless the rule is different on gas giant.

Is there an easy way to locate a deep enough lake on a gas giant? Any help is welcome and will be appreciated!

There's dozens of fishing bases for you to choose from on the starter planet. And plenty of lakes left to build your own if you wish.

I did Titan 5 times, but I don't remember much about that planet. I was in the wrap it up stages by the time I hit that system.

1. Any water depth has a chance of catching the larger fish, it's just quite a low chance at shallower depths <10U. 45U is where the best odds of Large and Colossal starts. 30U is deep enough to catch everything if you are patient.

2. Most Gas Giants I've explored have shallow (<10U) pools of surface water with a thin layer of crust and then deeper "cave" water under that. I don't think I've found anything over 45U deep yet though. There are natural openings to the deeper water or you can dig down with a maximum diameter terrain manipulator to expose the deeper water (terrain edits is probably not something you want to do at a fishing base though).

Depth is irrelevant for the milestone. You just need to catch 4 fish native to a gas giant. They don't even need to be unique from each other.
Be aware that your bases will disappear if you have not already completed the Stellar mission on your regular save-if you used an existing save to start the expedition. You can keep everything and not even do the Stellar mission if you start the expedition on a fresh save.

I would add that you do need to build a base on a gas giant and the one in the first system is probably best for that. Just don't go crazy if you know it is all going to disappear when you quit, just do the minimum the mission requires. I think it was just some floor pieces, wall pieces, and some ceiling pieces. I did it after I created a basic circular room base and I didn't even need to complete the whole thing- one end was open.

Sorry that I wasn't being clear in the post. I'm actually planning to build a base that I can return to after finishing the expedition to keep fishing. It's like a once-and-for-all plan.

I've built multiple fishing sites in my 300-hour main save already, and since I started the expedition from my main save, I'm planning to build a fishing base that I can return to after I finish the expedition.

If you have not completed In Stellar Multitudes on your main save before completing the Expedition, all Expedition bases you build in Purple star systems will be lost, because your main save isn't supposed to know about Purple systems yet.

No worries, I've completed all of that already.

And sorry I didn't realize you were referring to the purple system mission right away since I'm playing the game in a different language. Thank you very much for the information!

I guess I'll return to the first planet then! :steamhappy:
