Livestock Unit non-persistent
I suppose in terms of saving resources, it makes sense, but I really don't like how automated feeders/livestock units don't work if you're not nearby. I have several "bases" for farms set up on various systems, and it is only as I am going around and seeing little (probably from during setup) to no produce, and after further research, that I am finding out that they stop working when you're not around.

I know other people build fantastic bases and whatnot, but aside from one time when the environment inspired me (which I still haven't done much with), I see little to no point to building any more than the bare minimum of a planetary base to house a portal for later returns (see screenshot of my Paradise Ranch). I built farm areas on multiple planets because no one planet has every type of ingredient, but if none of them work when I am not nearby, what is the point? There is not really anything to do beyond expanding the "base" and I don't feel like standing around when I could be out...idk, doing space station missions? Nexus missions? Unrelated, but I'm burned out there too, as I finished all of the main story lines, and aside from missions, derelict freighters, my settlement, and maps, I don't really know what to do with this game anymore.

Best thing to do if you feel you need to bother with those is plan to be there, always. When you leave remove all the left over food cuz it will disappear anyway and remove all product. The only hope of any change is through nagging HG on their Zendesk. Here you are only ranting to the choir. Don't expect much on that front in this 9 yr old game. Probably pretty low or not even on any devs round-tuit list.

If you're burned out just go play something else. This is just a game, one of thousands. Not the game's responsibility to keep you entertained for the rest of your life. Take a break.

Aside from your question, that last statement stands out to me even more. Usually when people say something like that, it's time for a break or, for some, it's time to be done & move on. I've got 2500 hours & I'm doing the same right now - playing some other games that look drastically different - Civ 6, Railroad Empire, top-down games that look & play completely different than NMS.

Back to your query, I've only used the Feeding Units when I was grinding the entire recipe catalogue. There's some ingredients that can only be obtained through that method. Obviously since I was just after enough of a couple ingredients to continue filling out all the recipes I didn't wander far while using them.

I know Tilly has quite an impressive ranch & he uses them there, but I've never paid that much attention to them during any of my visits.

You do realise you can... stop playing this game? Find other games? Find other things to do in your life? If it's something you're struggling with, then it might be best to seek help from a specialist - these things do sometimes happen to people and not everyone realises the potential danger of giving into such a habit.

yeah, you're right, but just in my Library (not counting hidden games) I have 36 different games including nms, and the ones I even vaguely want to play are best played multiplayer, and the 2 people I have to play with are mostly unavailable when I am available. Too broke and don't think a "specialist" would help.

hello

With automated farming what I do is going to the farm when I need to do some other stuff, like base building, refining, cooking, crafting, organizing inventory etc... or just a bit afk while cooking listening to music or movies IRL. If the site is well chosen and rich in animals, by the time you finish your other chores your collector is pretty full.

Hence I try to set farms in places I have other stuff to do closeby, like a settlement to manage, or gathering stuff or a refining plant or a fishing pond...

For boredom yes other games, but also other modes. I am running permadeath abandonned for instance atm, and enjoying expeditions whenever available.
