If you're burned out just go play something else. This is just a game, one of thousands. Not the game's responsibility to keep you entertained for the rest of your life. Take a break.
Aside from your question, that last statement stands out to me even more. Usually when people say something like that, it's time for a break or, for some, it's time to be done & move on. I've got 2500 hours & I'm doing the same right now - playing some other games that look drastically different - Civ 6, Railroad Empire, top-down games that look & play completely different than NMS.
Back to your query, I've only used the Feeding Units when I was grinding the entire recipe catalogue. There's some ingredients that can only be obtained through that method. Obviously since I was just after enough of a couple ingredients to continue filling out all the recipes I didn't wander far while using them.
I know Tilly has quite an impressive ranch & he uses them there, but I've never paid that much attention to them during any of my visits.
yeah, you're right, but just in my Library (not counting hidden games) I have 36 different games including nms, and the ones I even vaguely want to play are best played multiplayer, and the 2 people I have to play with are mostly unavailable when I am available. Too broke and don't think a "specialist" would help.
With automated farming what I do is going to the farm when I need to do some other stuff, like base building, refining, cooking, crafting, organizing inventory etc... or just a bit afk while cooking listening to music or movies IRL. If the site is well chosen and rich in animals, by the time you finish your other chores your collector is pretty full.
Hence I try to set farms in places I have other stuff to do closeby, like a settlement to manage, or gathering stuff or a refining plant or a fishing pond...
For boredom yes other games, but also other modes. I am running permadeath abandonned for instance atm, and enjoying expeditions whenever available.
