Quartzite or Activated Quartzite -- Where??
Why isn't "locate substance" an option in my Catalogue & Guide?

They say "purple stars."

Well, I'm flying from purple to purple, so far no luck.

Does it show up when I scan from space, like copper or uranium or phosphorus deposits?

What's the deal with that stuff? How can I have played hundreds of hours and not encountered the material yet?

Every planet in purple systems will have Quartzite or Activated Quartzite. Sometimes system colors are hard to see in the galaxy map make sure the stellar classification is X or Y.
Also you need to have completed the mission In Stellar Multitude for them to be visible on the galaxy map.
Once you have passed the Stellar Mult- SM thing, they are part of the purple star group. Be aware that you need to do some searching. Some have active Q, and other have plain Q. At this point, there are no real demands on Quartzite of the Hydrogen element. Having added them we can only hope that means they have plans for more fun stuff that will require those elements...but rememeber that basalt really only is needed once...before your get giddy.

I'm not aware of a mission "Stellar Multitude." There is no mission of that name in my Log. Does that mean I have finished it? I've done so many quests at this point...

There are plenty of purple stars on my galactic map. All of them seem to be uncharted.

I move from one to the other, see whether any of the planets has "Quartzite" as a resource when I scan it from space -- nope. I touched down on a few, looked whether any deposits in my ground scan said "Quartzite" -- nope. Just the deposits the space scan predicted.

I'm a bit at a loss here.

If they're simply very rare and I have to scan a hundred planets to find one, I'm game. I just don't want to be on a wild goose chase here.

Basalt I needed recently in order to equip a second Multi-tool. But that was easy enough to find. There's a "locate substance" option in the log menu.

And that one seems to exist for all the other raw materials, too. Except Q. and A.Q.

I don't mean to alarm you, but you might have colour blindness... or you just haven't completed the main storyline quests. You must complete the Autophage mission before "In Stellar Multitudes" becomes available. Purple star systems ALWAYS have Quartzite. Also, purple start systems ALWAYS have either the big X or Y letters in their identification names when viewed in Galaxy Map.

If you see Copper, Cadmium, Emeril or Indium on any of the planets you are not in a purple system. If you see none of those then something very strange is happening.

In other to start In Stellar Multitude you need to have completed the Atlas Path and Those who returned.

I have done so many missions so long ago. And some I haven't finished yet, because there are so many. I have no idea whether one was called "Stellar Multitude" or "Autophage." Right now there's nothing like that in my log.

Are they part of Atlas? Are they Primary or Secondary Missions? Are they part of showing Atlas lots of wonders? I haven't done that to the end yet -- if there is an end. Everything else I think I have.

Then, my friend... you have a loooooooong way ahead of you if you want to get to purple star systems and have that Quartzite :)

In Stellar Multitudes has only been available for 6 weeks (since v5.50 on 29 January 2025).

If you don't remember doing a mission with a space-going Autophage which provided an Atlantid hyperdrive upgrade for your starship and revealed hidden purple star systems in the last month... then you haven't done it.

Taking into consideration the lack of acquaintance with the word "Autophage" I fear our fellow traveller isn't even aware of the prerequisite part of the story.

How do I share a screenshot in here? My stars all look a lot brighter than those, but they have a clearly identifiable purple, blue, green, or yellow sheen around them. I made a screenshot, but my monitor's HDR setting seems to distort the Steam screenshot. It doesn't look like what I see when I play the game. Besides, I don't know how to post it in here anyway. Pasting doesn't work.

So how do I get there? I played Atlas through to the point where you have to decide whether to go to the next galaxy or stay in Euclid and keep playing there. I chose not to reset, because I wasn't sure what starting over in another galaxy would entail losing.

Apparently you don't lose your bases, but I didn't know that at the time.

Now whenever I visit an Atlas interface I get to show it one of my wonders and I get a little reward. Is there an endgame to this? Is finishing that one how I trigger the "Multitudes" mission?

I played through the Anomaly and Artemis story line. I think... It says "enjoy the galaxy" and "enjoy reality while it lasts!"

Just to go over some key points again:
1. Purple star systems unlock ONLY after completeing the main story quests. Including the new continuation which happens AFTER the Autophage missions ("They Who Returned") and directly leads into creating/unlocking the "first" purple star system where you have to complete some more tasks before unlocking ALL of the purple star systems in the galaxy.
1.1. Alternative way of unlocking purple star systems and the Atlantid Drive is by starting a new game file to play the Expedition #17 by choosing it as a game mode (=right from the start, and not converting from a "main save").
2. Gas Giants can ONLY be found in purple star systems. However, NOT ALL the purple star systems have Gas Giants. They're rather rare, but can be easily spotted in the star system's description
3. Purple star systems are just as numerous as all the others, so finding the one with a Gas Giant can take some time, though I've had no problem randomly locating them in my path towards the centre.
4. Purple star systems always have the big X and Y identification letters when viewing the Galaxy Map (located after the LightYears distance numbers // HERE // before the "type" like "Water", "Dissonant", etc.).
