I can NOT find caves!

I;m trying to find one last fauna, and it's a rare underground. I thought I should go searching a cave. But I can NOT find any caves! It's crazy since I usually find them.

I'm on a particular planet that I haven't found caves on yet. I looked up tips online and they all say to find buildings, which I've done, but I have yet to see a cave around them. Is it possible the planet has no caves? Any ideas?

I've been on some that have very few cave openings, but some pretty vast underground caverns that have to be dug into to reach.

Look out in your scanner for markers for subterranean relics (like Vortex Cubes and such) and be prepared to dig.

Also, some underground rare creatures are burrowers and can appear on the surface. Just randomly walking around on the surface with your visor view pointed down can trigger the creature to pop up on the ground around you.

Keep your eye out for scanner items that are usually underground. Then dig to them.

Not all caves have exits to the surface, so when you are wandering around (and especially when you pull up the visor) look for the tags for Humming Sacs and Subterranean Relics, since both of those are found only in caves. If you see the tag, select it, then use the terrain manipulator to dig down to it.

The best buildings to look for if you are using that to help are the big trading posts, since those have a really wide area that gets flattened, and the flattening associated with any POI can cut into a cave, exposing it, and hopefully putting any cave floor animal spawn point on the surface where you can see the critters more easily.

try scan some structure with your exocraft scanner or buy planetary charts, they usually cut some part of the terrain creating a cave entrance
it usually indicated by the stalagmites
if you stand near them and look around you might find that pesky 1 fauna

It took me quite a while, searching for underground stuff until I found a cave. The funny thing is once I found the red dot for the uknown fauna and dug up to get it, I found it on the surface lol.
