How to get to the hub?
I'm new to this game, and I just realized it's different to the videos I found on Youtube, where a lot of players meet in a hub, mine is just me and me alone. Am I in the wrong mode or do I need more playing time?

You need to play the tutorial until you have access to it. And this is not a MMO, and you rarely will see anyone outside of the hub.
This is still mostly a single player game, with a rudimentary multiplayer mode tacked on top of it.

Sometimes you won't get a good connection to the game servers and your Anomaly (the Hub) can appear empty, with only you inside. You can quit to the Main Menu and try again, but if that doesn't work you can quit the game entirely and retry.

You won´t miss much (other than it looks lively). Mostly you will recive some ultra expensive loot from somebody. Or perhaps do some quicksliver missions in group. But there are a lot of people anytime I connect. So probably some sort of connection issues.

You are the only one in the hub (space anomaly) if either.
1. the in-game network settings are switched off .
2. the network is not functioning properly for some reason.
3.No one is really there. (accidentally).
Unless you are playing with friends or enjoying watching other people's activities, we recommend that you leave the network settings and multiplayer turned off.
(Multiplayer-related aspects are somewhat unstable and prone to lag and glitches.)

Oh gosh, thanks for the information! I didn't think there would be replies that fast!

I have over 3K hours in this game. I think I have seen another player (or maybe it was a player owned ship) outside the Anomaly (what you are calling the "hub") ONCE in all that play time. So I refer you back to Dirak's 1st response above.

And, yes, you need more play time til the game tutorial thread directs you there.

In any case:
- Be "in space" in your ship
- "X" key gives you the special actions menu (but you have to be ready to deal with it; it is a quick menu, doesn't linger long.) Menu is arranged horizontally along bottom.
- "Q" key shifts menu highlight left. "E" shifts menu right.
- You usually open menu on the "Recharge" option. (Looks like a battery.)
- "Q" to shift left once to the "Summon" sub-menu icon. (S'posed to look like a teleport spot on the floor, I think.)
- Open the "Summon" sub- menu.
- Shift left once, to a round icon with a sort of cross on it. That is the Anomaly icon.
- Click on that. Anomaly will transport in / materialize, a few hundred units in front of your ship.
- There is an obvious door. Fly through it, just like with a space station.
- Talk to weird Ariadne, standing on the big curved ramp at the back.

Remember that some things will no make sense if you have jumped ahead of the tutorial, and even then until you have pieced a few story bits together.
