Starting a new game in an expedition is a good way to advance in the game much faster than you would normally. After the expedition ends, you get to keep that character and ALL the stuff - but not if you started the expedition from another saved game.
Yes.... well, i have not personally done it, but i have been told by other players that you can start a game directly into an expedition, and after you complete the expedition, it becomes your main save.
Expeditions can either be run from a brand new save file from the main game menu or you can run them from an existing save file from the terminal at the Anomaly. New saves will convert to a separate non-expedition save at the completion (or expiry) of the Expedition with everything collected retained. Existing saves can copy items back from the Expedition to the "main save".
All phase rewards earned during an Expedition (including the Iron Vulture starship and Ship of the Damned frigate) can be claimed on any save from the Quicksilver vendor in the Anomaly.
That ship wont be the iron eagle, you get that at the end.
I don't know if the regular game tutorial is going to make you feel not lost??
Might be easier to just watch a NMS youtube video on the basics and watch one for the expedition too, then keep going with the expedition?
Worms don't destroy things. Your ship probably flew off, because of not being your ship.
I had that happen, another persons ship was parked very close to mine, it did create a moment or two of confusion, like why can't i get in my ship? Oh yeah, its not my ship.
