Do I still share the same world as the cheaters, though?
More then likely, yes. The game can be freely modded so you could verly likely run into cheaters. I would defilitely turn off multiplayer while playing in Permadeath mode.
Alright, Thanks for the info. I wish this was something I could get past. I need a new brain ffs
Game Vet glasses make it seem that way after playing hundreds of hours. I remember starting out - was pretty confused at times.
You aren't wrong. I just have issues with stuff like this. Having such a generous difficulty slider in itself pulls me out of the immersion. I don't know why. I liked how the game had set difficulties back in the day. Back then I loved this game to pieces. I felt so immersed. I felt like I was on a lonely adventure in infinite space. It gave me amazing feelings. I know I am picky about something like this. I wish so much I could move past this. Part of being in the world struggling with others is part of my immersion. If I know that many are treating it like creative mode it just annoys my mind. I know I will likely never see them in any meaningful way, but yet I still can't move past this. I wish I could. A doctor told me I am ocd, so whether there is a connection there, I do not know.
The only thing that really changed, for Permadeath, is that some of the settings can be set higher then even permadeath defaults, which wasn't the case prior to custom difficulty options.
Permadeath players are isolated from all other players, so you will not see anyone who is playing in a mode where the settings can be lowered.
Modding and save editing is still an issue, but it was back then too.
Also worth noting that there are many ways to "cheat" in NMS that have literally nothing to do with your chosen game mode, so not sure what you are referring to by "cheaters"...
But you should only see Permadeath players if you've got an actual Permadeath save... Either way, I would always recommend to turn PvP off...
Yup, only threat I've had so far was a bugged pirate ship that only took shield damage, but no hull damage... I simply ran away once it was obvious that destroying it was impossible and I started taking damage to tech...
