Atlas Passes 2021 :0
I've found a number of thread on this topic... but the most recent was 2019, and I'm still getting different answers.

The Question is: Do you need to keep all 3 versions (v1, v2 and v3)... or only v1 & v3... or Hopefully... just v3?!?

Advance Thanx!!!

Yes, you need to keep all three. If it helps, think of them as keycards that go to a certain lock. They're never used up, but you can't open a V1 with V3. Makes no sense until you shift the thought paradigm. They're like a car key, a mailbox key, and a door key, so to speak.

Sorry, that's not true.

OP, you only need v3, and you only need 1 of them. They're backward compatible.

True, but they are Encoded Key Cards, which means Version 1, 2 & 3 could be security clearances.

But, oh well... I just have to pick and choose what's important... opening the occasional door or container.... or Not Dying :) - LOL.

Hi, I'd like to submit a bug report. I'm tired of having to carry all three Atlas Passes because these programmers can't be consistent.

Maybe it changed mid-stream somewhere. Have you tried with only v3 in inventory?
Captain Cosmo Mar 13, 2021 @ 9:54am
Well... I did try with a V2 pass on a V1 lock, no dice. Maybe V3 works as advertised?

Crossed-Fingers... because you're correct... Carrying 3 has to suck!!!

V3 definitely opens containers requiring V1.
It's been awhile since I tried to open a V2 door, but I thought that a V3 opened them.

V3 does everything unless you encounter something that's going to expend an Atlas Pass, then you need the right one (I forget what does that, but there's something). It's been that way since Visions.

well, the obvious question is... is there anything worth having in those containers or rooms?

i've never bothered with these areas/containers because i was never aware i needed anything inside them.

Some locked rooms contain deeper lore, and you might find some of the items you find helpful early game.
Atlas pass 3 is all you currently need.

You can disregard the 1st and 2nd passes once you can craft Atlas Pass 3. I noticed they can be stacked too but I have never tried to trade them or give them away. Maybe someone has tried that?

Pretty sure the "expend" objects were removed right after Visions. At the very least, there haven't been any found in the past few major revisions.

This. After the consolidation, there was a bug where V3's would not open V1 containers found in underwater ruined buildings, but that has been patched. V2's still only open V2s, which has always been odd.

I dont know if anyone said it already but after I had gotten atlas pass 3 I got ride of 1 and 2. I found a side missions later on that would only take pass 1 and used it up in the process. So after you get 3 maybe keep 1 and 2 on your freighter or something in case you run into a side mission that needed it like I did.
