Can you post screen shots of the game windowed and full screen so we can see the issue?

Also what are your system specs? I'm not getting this problem with a rather old 6gb 1060 and Ryzen 3600, so it could be your graphics drivers. Unfortunately without more info its difficult to say.

when you say dark... do you mean washed-out grey-ish cos that's a whole can of worms that a forum search will give you loads to read

nvm setting it on borderless fixes it, but as soon as i set to fullscreen again it goes darker again

i'm going to guess that you are using DLSS, maybe? IIRC this problem has something to do with it and the Contrast or Brightness setting... i recall someone saying to turn DLSS off, adjust the Contrast or Brightness to full light, and then enable DLSS again... apparently DLSS takes that setting into account even if it is disabled in the settings when DLSS is being used...

Could you try to disable windows auto brightness, auto HDR, and if you are on recent update of Windows 11, turn off the Auto manage color for apps?
I experienced washed-out in some games in HDR while in fullscreen and disabling those help.

I haven't checked if they're turned on or not, do I still have to turn those off even tho my monitor doesn't support HDR (I'm replying through my phone)

Same issue, except it's occurring on multiple games for me, SpaceEngineers and 7D2D.
After tests, it's not AutoHDR or FullscreenOptimization.
It is infact windows and not anything to do with Nvidia or AMD, as i tried multiple of the AMD drivers.

After screwing around for a bit, i did find an possible workaround.
When in exclusive fullscreen, press Ctrl+Shift+WinKey+B
This will restart the windows display driver, which will force the display driver to return to default brightness, but you have to do this EVERY time you alt+tab
