This Game desperately needs an Inventory Auto Sort

I dunno, I like sorting things out myself. Everyone has their own different way of doing it right? Even with an auto-sort that made sense by the category of item sorted, I still see myself rearranging things to my own personal taste. But that's just my opinion.

I think OP just wants an auto-sort for the Exosuit and Ship.

I would like that, just for the quick Consolidation of the items I have scattered around in my inventory (Some even being off screen because I forget to scroll down)

Only if it's sorted by colour. Nobody's messing with my sock drawer unless they're colour sorted.

Y'know, they could just add a SORT BUTTON, like there is in some RPG games.
That way the people who don't want an autosort don't have to use it.

I prefer people having the OPTION, rather than saying "NO, NOBODY can have sorting because I don't want it"

All fine and dandy, but we already have different opinions on how the sort function should sort. What we need is a sort button to sort out the sorters, and arrange the various sorted sorters into sorted categories so that 'never the twain shall meet'.. there , Sorted it !

Was thinking the same thing few days ago lol, I hate inventory management but I'm really decent at it from hating to do it, it's contradictory xD Once you get storage it's much easier, and once you get the freighter matter beam you dont even have to look in it anymore unless you're refining. That being said though, I'd appreciate a search bar that looks through either all storage or the one that's opened.

The only sorting I want is to just 'gather together" all the stuff in my ship or exosuit inventory instead have everything scattered around with empty slots
I want to hit a button and all the scattered stuff gets put in the empty slots and the actual empty slots end up at the bottom of inventory. Like some RPGs do.

I'm not talking about wanting something like Tossing all of your items into one container, and then those items are distributed though the 10 containers based on Name, etc.

The trick I use now for bases with particular resource extractors or I place only the container I want that stuff to go into. Now when i quick move the items I pick up, I place them into the storage and they go to that specific container. When crafting, I pull the freighter in which has the matter transporter into the system (you can do this while on planet too) and it now seems to be available for crafting. For me an inventory search feature would be sufficient. I wouldn't mind an auto-sort but through these tricks its not entirely necessary. An addon that could display the items sorted would also work just fine like is in games like wow and arkInventory which you can setup rules on how items are displayed even though your actual bags are still a giant mess.

Not sure if it has been said, but the Matter Beam installed on your freighter makes everything simpler. As long as it is in system, you can put and pull from any inventory no matter where you are in the system. You can also craft in your suit and it will automatically use any of the items you have in any of the other inventories that are needed.

I think the toughest part of it is learning to use the "hand" function for halving/changing how much you pull or put and how to use the tabs to move items around between inventories. After about 10 minutes of practice it becomes second nature.

I only use the split amount (C if I remember right) since I am usually breaking up one big pile into four piles for my refiners.

It sounds like most would be happy with a "compact" button, rather than a "sort" button.

Asking HG to sort our stuff for us sounds like a recipe for unhappiness, since we can't even reliably determine which tab we'll be on when we open out inventory.
