HOTAS support / 6DOF
I've given NMS a go in the past, and the lack of HOTAS support / 6DOF was the main thing that killed it for me.

There have been a loooooot of updates since then, and perhaps I am missing something from the patch notes. Did they add these things, yet?

I was actually wondering the same thing. Hotas somewhat worked if you used it as a gamepad, i would be happy if the VR controllers could control the vehicles without using the the spaceships in-game joystick

I'd settle for being able to use KB/M while using the HMD.

Why do you need HOTAS to have 6-DOF controls, and why would you assume that the ships should support 6-DOF controls? What is missing that you think would add to the game?

I guess it was about time for the yearly HOTAS thread.

No, they haven't added it and they never will.
The trailer for their new game shows that they've learned absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nothing about their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ flight mechanics, they are the exact same as in NMS. There's not even any way to mod in 6DOF. I'm giving up on these devs unless they add it in, NOW.

Based on your last rant, this is not the kind of game you're looking for and neither will be LNF. You're not so much "giving up on these devs" as you are realizing that fact, which is healthy for you. Go play an actual sim.

The above is what’s wrong with every game these days, it’s not the game or the developers, it’s the “Get Good”, “Everything must be done MY way”, players. For goodness sake this is a game, it’s entertainment, it’s not a “Flight Simulator”, if you need that spend the money and get Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 or 2024.

Then you can have all the ‘fun’ in the world (literally) and it works with HOTAS, Joypad, keyboard and mouse or any combination, even a dedicated VR setup menu.
Yes I do have both games on Steam and the flight sim and I have been playing games since they were text based so be thankful there a such talented people that can produce games and entertainment like we have today.

even if there was hotas support, wouldn't it be overkill for NMS's simplistic flight mechanics?
you might as well just use a controller now rather than wishing for something that ain't coming

That's the thing, if there was 6DOF I could rig up some HOTAS support of my own, done it with a few space games - some pad emulation using the native/steam support (as N4m33b points out there is), maybe a touch of autohotkey to fix up strafes, whatever as long as the flight model allows the ship to move along and rotate around X, Y and Z you can get it working to an extent. It's the flight model itself that prevents it, and kinda spoils the game for me.

Flying a ship from this perspective with a gamepad would be extremely strange for me, much like using a one-button mouse - I would be much more likely to use kb/m than a gamepad myself.

i get where you're coming from... but my question still stands, the flight mechanics in the vanilla game is pretty basic (there's a mod in the wild that adds alot more mobility/drift to the mechanics and as this is just changing values in a file the actual game is capable of better) but right now you can either go without and mild venting or try something else yes it's not hotas but a controller is more than good enuf for wots there right now... still to each their own i guess
anyways gl
Check the numerous threads in this forum discussing HOTAS and how to set things up. Suggested search for the term HOTAS or Hotas in the threads search box. That should help and its possible to filter the searches by date too.

Yeah that's what I was trying to answer - 6dof is the concrete difference, the line it would have to get over for me (and it's what's needed, mechanically speaking, for hotas support to really be applicable).

Can't speak for anyone else but it isn't something I would vent about, It just makes it a game to approach in a different way to Elite: Dangerous, X, Everspace etc. I was just asking in case things changed since the last time I checked.
