There shouldn't be a quest tied to it, once you can craft antimatter to make a warp cell you can find the planets. Look for systems on the galaxy map that say "dissonant" next to where it says how far away it is (the line of text under the system name that has LY's). Once in that system there could be a planet that has "dissonance detected" when you scan it, make sure to check every planet to see which one it is. You might have to try a few systems but you will find one!
No, until you complete a quest purple star systems (all dissonant) simply don't exist for you.

This is wrong. You can find dissonant planets. You won't see autophages until you finish the appropriate missions. Many people find dissonant planets asap to farm sentinel ships for units. Not all dissonant planets are in purple star systems.

Please don't spread wrong information.

No idea where you got that from. You literally cannot progress to purple systems without having visited a dissonant system first... it's a requirement to initiate "They Who've Returned".

You find dissonant planets in systems marked as dissonant on the galaxy map.
There is a chance taniwhat was on the right track here, given the description of the issue.

Normal systems with Dissonant planets are of course different to Purple Systems with Dissonant planets, even though they are both marked as Dissonant in the galactic map.

In Multiplayer, if player one has unlocked purple systems and is located in one, and another player joins their group and tries to reach them without having already unlocked purple systems, they will be directed to the nearest non-purple system to the purple one.
They will not be able to see the host player's system, although they will see player one's position marked on the galactic map as being in empty space.

If that is indeed the scenario the OP is encountering, then they need to do all the main quests to unlock Purple systems before they will be able to visit that particular Dissonant planet.

IF it is just an ordinary Dissonant planet in a non-purple system they will be able to spawn in that system in MP by joining player one's game (even if it is in a colour system - Red Green Blue - they don't have hyperdrive tech for). There is no setting that will change a planet seed from Dissonant to Non-Dissonant between two players that are able to join the same group.

Ah, the OP never specified that they were trying to join the friend's session... Just visit a planet... but yeah, that makes sense of their issue.
Sorry @taniwhat, I didn't gather that from your response either, it came across like you were suggesting 100% of dissonants are in purple systems ^^

We dont know what happened but for some reason if he hosts and I join him with one of those planets they dont work, but if I visit it first it works for both of us. Its really weird but we figured it out when I said screw it. I see a system Im going to it and it just worked lol
in regular modes on a fresh save, the system you start in and the first system you jump to will remove dissonance from planets, unless they fixed that. when joining your friend, don't use a fresh save.

To clarify; this is the way it still works in v6.0x (tested & confirmed on 6.01)

On a fresh save, you MUST make 1 jump before going to a Dissonant System. If you do make your first jump to a Dissonant System; there will NOT be any "Dissonance Detected" planets in that system.

After you've made that first jump, any system labeled as "Dissonant" will work as you'd expect.
In the galaxy map, hover over systems until you see the text "dissonant"

This was probably the issue do to my hyper drive being broke so we sorta stayed on a single planet for awhile. Which he took me to a dissonant planet, my first jump was also to a dissonance system with him, which made it so it was no long dissonance, eventually I was like screw it. Ill jump myself and than I got a dissonance world. Didnt realize there was a jump requirement.
