Is there any way to progress when a main mission disappears from your log?
I think I might be stuck and unable to progress. I'm on the mission "The Space Anomaly". All it says to do is purchase technology blueprints and new base parts or join players on nexus missions. I've been playing for 60 hours already so I've been doing a butt ton of stuff, I have the perfect set of armor that I wanted, a full Fleet comprised of cosmic leviathans and pirate ships with a pirate dreadnought. My squadron is comprised of four Starborn phoenix's including my own with S class pilots which took a very long time of grinding quicksilver because each one cost 3,000 each. So I've just been grinding, exploring, or doing side-missions for 40 hours. If after all that I'm not going to be able to do the main missions I'm going to be sick.

But while doing all that, I've had the quest "A leap in the Dark" in my log the entire time and according to a reddit post, that's the mission I'm supposed to be doing because it's apparently linked to the space anomaly mission. But I went to select it and continue the main story and it's just gone. It's no longer in my log and I know I didn't complete it. With only the auto save and restore point I can't go back far enough to before whatever broke, broke. Is there any way to force progression or fix this without having to start a new file? Maybe I even just received bad advice on reddit?

The Space anomaly mission is always there in the top list, but the specifics change depending on what other missions are active and a what stage they are. There are various stages in the main missions that will guide you back to the anomaly by automatically making that your active mission, but there will be a marker to speak to (usually Nada) if not then switch your active quest back to A leap in the Dark. A leap in the Dark is part of the main mission sequence.

That's what I'm saying though, I can't switch back to it because it's not in my log. The entire mission just vanished so I can't switch to it. I guess I'll try talking to Nada and see if it does anything.
The primary missions are always in your log, even after you've completed them...

By any chance, did you use a save editor on this save? Only asking because I've never heard of a mission disappearing from the list unless it finishes. Except the main missions at the top, which turn into explorer the universe stuff, and the exploration guide and community mission reminder mission.

You've probably just satisfied the requirements for that quest and it went away. Quests can be problematic in NMS because a lot of time when they're done they just disappear. Dreams of the Deep is like that. You putz along and then it's done, just gone.

You could go to the wiki and check the list of main tutorial quests and go to the one you think you should have up and see what comes after it, before it, or what the wiki says prompts the next one and what you did to finish it. There's probably something in your list now you just don't recognize as part of the questline.

Besides the main quests shown at the top the subquests will be lower down with your space station missions so there's two places to look. It's explained in the LOG portion but you have to go out of your way to read it to follow the trail of crumbs. I am doing Artemis for the zillionth time and had forgotten how unintuitive the quest placements can be, where they're found. Good luck.

No I don't use save editors ever. But I did manage to restart the mission "Alone amidst the stars" and after doing the first part of the mission, it led back to "A leap in the dark" and I was able do it. Honestly no idea why the mission disappeared but it's back now. lol

Edit: I got unlucky though and the mission sent me to a marine planet this time, but I have severe thalassophobia and the signal I'm supposed to reach is deep underwater. :( I managed to grit my teeth and go all the way down there with the minotaur and I thought it was over, but then for the third glyph it sent me back to the marine planet even deeper underwater. The game is just trolling me at this point.
