Endless search for Cadmium
For every step forward I have to take two steps back. I have searched endlessly red star systems on the galaxy map. Active Cadmium I have, which does me no good. Cadmium I can't find. I wish there was a filter. I will check the guides again.

Hi, another method is through refining. This should work well whether you're early game or a good ways through. Only difference will be how you go about step 1 😅

Get a lot of Chromatic Metal

Buy a Pulse Engine Upgrade Module

Install Upgrade

Dismantle upgrade to get some Cadmium

Refine in a Medium refiner along with Chromatic Metal to double your Cadmium 😅

(Emeril and Indium can also be refined this way)

latest confirmation on it is from 9 months ago, should be good to go
Any planet with activated metals wont have the basic variant. You need another planet for that.
I've never encountered a system that only has extreme weather planets (which is where you find activated metals), so you can almost certainly just go to another planet in the system you are in already...
You can scan the planet from space to see what resources it has...

Imo, that's way more complicated than just going to an appropriate planet... but yes, you can get all the stellar metals except quartzite without ever mining anything.

for me, the easiest way to find most things i need is to use the knowledge catalog tab beside the discoveries tab... in the knowledge tab, you'll find lists of everything you know about... go to the stellar metals page, click on the Cadmium pic and it should set a quick mission to take you to a planet where some is... go there and use the scanner which will point you to several nearby deposits...
Every red star system should have it. I don't think it's possible for one to not have it. Just know that the scanner is not always accurate. It is possible for the scanner to say cadmium but you land and find it has activated cadmium. The only way to be sure is to land on it.

That did the trick. I will remember that one. Up till now I had scanned over ten system and found nothing. This is the most bizarre planet I have ever visited yet. All the animals are machines with metal legs and long bodies. The trees remind me of lava lamps. Its so cool I am going to build a base to keep track pf it.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
In my case I found Cadmium just by dismantling X-rated Technology Upgrades which I obtain from Sus Packages or from Pirate systems (You can find Pirate systems with the Economy Scanner.)

Seriously?

Just like Copper on planets under Yellow stars, there are either:
1. Cadmium surface deposits EVERY planet in ANY Red star system.
2. If the planet happens to be an extreme environment / storms planet, it will be Activated Cadmium instead.

Just how many Red system planets have you landed on and scanned with your Analysis Visor?

i did a bunch of that and then realized the seek function... i've used it ever since although i hate how it turns off once the search is satisfied... have to go back through the knowledge tab again...

I like my endless searches to be short. -Guy looking for his glasses - hint he is wearing them.:steamhappy:

Do keep in mind the tagging of a resource in the catalog is not always available; some items simply can't be tagged for searching.
Eventually you will have more Cadmium than you know what to do with.

When you open the galaxy map look for red stars and select one to go to, these systems have at least one planet with cadmium.

That is what I was doing, opening the map and going from one red star to another and scanning planets as I went. I found nothing.

Coincidentally, all starship upgrade modules starting with "P" (Photon Cannon, Phase Beam, Positron Ejector and Pulse Engine) give Cadmium when dismantled.
