the topic got hijacked and locked but i had already typed this up so here goes.

"Windows search will not find the saves. the folders are hidden.

Depending on where the saves are located windows will lock a folder heirarchy if there are pending updates in either windows updates or the MS store. So check both of those before continuing. the reboot the computer.

From there make sure you are on the steam account that the saves were made in. Family share on the same windows login will totally overwrite saves. Its not a bug. You sign in to a new account, the new saves come in the old files go out.

So after that

The saves i believe are located in "application data" folder which is hidden. Windows search will not find them unless hidden file search is enabled. to get to that folder type below in the windows taskbar.

%appdata%

Then look for Hello Games folder.

the folder could also be

%localappdata%

im not sure, i dont have my computer in front of me.

When you find the hello games folder, windows updates have happened, and the computers been rebooted, and are sure you are in the right account. With the program off Cut and paste the hello games folder to the desktop and start the game up. that should trigger the game pulling the current saves from the steam cloud.

es lo que tienes en la nube de steam
y lo que steam descarga en tu ordenador
si accedes desde steam no tendrás que iniciar sesión, si lo haces desde un navegador si

Why the whole appdata directory has to be 'hidden' is beyond me, but I always have the option to show such folders through windows explorer enabled.

Anyways, the save file directory for windows is:
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\(steamID? It'll likely be the only folder that shows up if no other steam accounts are accessed on your machine, AFAIK)

Also worth mentioning that Steam Cloud has been know to cause these sorts of issues as well, with various games, which is particularly devastating if you don't keep a copy out-of-directory, as Steam Cloud overwrites all the files in the directory the game has linked. So best to keep at least 1 copy in a location you have created. (I have been copying in increment, on a separate drive. Probably overkill, but protects from cases of only 1 drive failing, and/or me exiting/backing up after the save getting corrupted without my knowledge. Albeit, I probably do not need every backup I've created since I've started in 2022...)

The short answer is you're responsible for your files AND the integrity of the machine you're using to save them on.

If you wait for hard drives to fail before rotating them out to less risky uses, that's as much of a problem as not saving them on your own network.

There's virtually no risk of losing files that way & even then I still make backups on separate drives for redundancy. I don't have Windows, so I don't have to worry about OneDrive ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my personal files & as always, Steam Cloud is always disabled.

I'm not finding any of this, there's no update pending either so I'm under the assumption that my saved file is entirely cloud driven.

The cloud is only a backup. you definitely have the saves on your PC/devise.
If you aren't seeing them, then you aren't looking very hard.

Here's a simple test to confirm that your files are saved locally...(which I can guarantee is the case).
Turn off your internet connection and launch the game. If your saves are still there, then the files must be on your PC.
